Question we are coming to lafayette too

Hi there,
I am english and moving to lafayette with my husbands job (in oil). we have a four year old daughter and a son of nine months. We arrive mid July. Am keen to know how you are getting on and how easy it's proving to make friends? we have lived in South Africa and Indonesia but never the US - though both of us have visited on holiday.
Maybe we should have a coffee when I arrive - need anything from the UK?
Any tips for me before we arrive?

Lafayette is a great place and friends will not be hard to find. I have been living here all my life and if I can help in anyway, please post any questions.

Some Cornish pasties would be nice. My Grandmother, whose parents were from Yorkshire, used to make those for us when she visited from Alabama. People in south Louisiana will have no idea what that (pasty) is. Another thing . . be prepared for very strong coffee. South Louisianians just like it that way.

after living here for four years, I am not a happy camper. Friends not hard to find? understatement of century. Although I am sure it will be better for you. Some people get on fine here and some don't. Best of Luck to you.

Im curious as to what you mean by this. Finding friends obviously varies from person to person, and I have dozens of them in Lafayette. I even have at least 6 friends who lives closer to Baton rouge and New Orleans who have moved here to Lafayette. I helped 3 of them move in this month alone.
There are lots of places around town to find and make friends. 2 bowling alleys, a bunch of cinemas, clubs, a ton of restaurants of every kind, sports bars, girard park, the university, the bookstores and coffee houses, a bunch of festivals....if you havent found things to do or made any friends, it is either because you arent a people-person or you just plain dont want to.
