I am in central Mississippi, have never seen them here, but have lots of them now. Weird things, huh.

They're bad here near the FL panhandle. I just cleaned them off of my van today.

The louisiana legend is baaaacccck. Let me return back with a crazy encounter with those crazy lovebugs, you guys are gonna enjoy this. As alot of you already kno, im from the amazing and vibrant city of Monroe, LA. Now I kno its Louisiana and the fact that theres alot of water here in my city theres gonna be alot of insects, but where in the of world did all these love bugs come from. I have been noticing them more and more each day but i didnt think nothing of it, until they tried to attack me. I went for a walk Thursday of last week and I saw them flying around of course, but as i kept walking, I found myself usually swating more and more. Each step i took they seem to be attracted to me for some reason, and they seem to be flying towards me. I didnt have any type of fragrance on nuthin but they were swarming me, I noticed as i looked behind me. I starting thinking crazy things like its the end of the world, and the lord was trying to punish me. It started geting crazy because they were coming so fast, I was swating so much that it would seemed like i was crazy if u passed by in car. I needed a windsheild or something, it looked as though i was doing Bruce Lee moves I was swating so much at those darn bugs. I didnt want to go back home so i had to do something quick, so i ran, i mean i sprinted!!! And you know what, lol, they still swarmed me!!!!! I had to cover my face before they hit me in the face. I ran all the way to the dollar store, where i saw a relief. I saw them covering the door, and heard some people say these words "Where did all these bugs come from, the hurricane must have brought them". I dont know why they have been showing up in abundance, but they need to go away, or simmer down. I dont want no lovebugs havin sex on me, yuck!!!

LOL Legend! Good to see you back. I'm seeing them for the first time in Shreveport in abundance. Must be one or two things-either the canes have driven them up here or there really is something to this climate change thing. Honest to God we never saw them north of Natchitoches before. never seems to get really cold anymore in the winter.

Lovebugs are these really annoying black flying insects that show up for a week or two twice a year. People call them lovebugs because they spend almost their whole lives mating. They are also called March Flies. They are harmless but for the time that they are here they are really annoying, especially when they decide to make themselves comfortable in the middle of the interstate and they wind up all over the front of your car.

And everyone has their little tricks on how to remove them from the vehicles. I'm surprised if they don't already offer some magical love bug removal juice in the automotive aisles now.

I heard they are attracted to heat and that's why they tend to swarm around major roadways. Baton Rouge sprays fairly well for mosquitos so I think in some respect that keeps the biggest swarms out of the city because I always notice them being worse as soon as I get any distance away from here.

Completely harmless, but annoying as all hell. You'll see.

We spray good in Monroe too, but I neva notice they come out certain times of year. I guess its freaky season then. I mean it u really look at it, in the cold people cuddle and make hippie love especially during a war. Let the insects get it on too. And speaking of areas thats hot, i guess thats why they swarmed me, because im so hot. So my point is, treat the love bug like the groundhog and its significance, let it symbolize lovemaking and stuck-togetherness....(only from louisiana legend, no try to follow-up on this post!!!) lol.

Ok, that explains it, now tell me how big they are? Biggest insect we get around here is a cicada. Never seen one of those either until I moved here 5 years ago, lived 3 hours north where it's too cold for them. I imagine there will be a lot of new critters to get used to when we move. Right now we only deal with mosquitos for about 5-6 months of the year.
Thanks for clarifying.
