Gotta love Chalmatians. Can't say that I've never heard actual canadian accents down here. I've never heard "Aboot" or "Hey/Eh". The few people that actually speak fluent French can typically understand and speak good English as well (perhaps with a heavy accent). Most of the people sound like typical southerners. And the further out you get away from the major cities, especially down the bayou, the accents get extremely heavy.

Most all sound like the Southerners we are and yes we say ya'll.
Actually, I meant to say that they sound like they are from New York, not Canada.

Lafayette is an interesting city itself. Steeped in cajun traditions and pride but also progressive in ways. Some of the fastest internet in the nation for example and lots of development going on. Its a city trying to look back and forwards at thr same time.
