Mountain lions actually have a very tough time killing an adult horse. That's why their population is always growing out west. I'm guessing it was probably not that unless your horses were tied up or in an very small enclosed area. Now suppose someone let loose a pet lion, tiger, or jaguar that had gotten too big then you would have a cat capable of killing a horse. From a distance a female lion wouldn't look much different from a mountain lion.

However, its odd that they didn't eat the guts (maybe I missed that as I kind of glossed over the original post) and ate the meat around the head. The guts are usually the first thing a predator eats. Based on that I think the evidence clearly points to a weregator.

No doubt, based on the profile....

So typical of them.

There are most definitely cougars in the East Texas piney woods along the Louisiana border. I don't think it's out of the question to assume that they exist inside Louisiana in similar habitat or that their numbers are expanding to the point that range is expanding eastward. If you have deer, you can have cougar. A cougar is not a diminutive cat - 200+ for a tom isn't out of the question. I don't know that I would say "impossible" if presented with evidence that a cougar killed, for example, a less-than-stoutly-built quarter horse and dragged it.

On second thought, do you have any teenage girls that behave strangely in your area? For example, are they tortured souls longing for passion, romance and unattainable enduring love with immortals who frequently stay out all night? If they wake up in the hayloft, naked and covered in blood that's a dead giveaway.

Why would anyone be proud of killing an animal on the endangered species list??? The people that were proud of killing the baby panther...I will keep my totally negative comments on this to myself. Think about why these poor animals now have to roam the cities when they love to be hidden??? Think about that if you can remain logical for a few moments. oooh this makes me angry.

If it was endangering me, my family, and/or my property I would unload every piece of lead in it.

Okay, we will put you out on the Savannah in Africa and give you a big gun.

When a lion comes after you, what are you going to do? Shoot it, or have a conversation about animal rights with it?

I would make sure I was protected from an animal that size....scarey. I would lock animals up in a secure barn or in my home at night. That is a really strong cat...you sure there isn't a lion or tiger on the loose somewhere?

Surely the owner of a lion or tiger would report his cat missing. Wild panther is more plausible to me.

Anomalous animal sightings may be difficult to believe but strange things happen. I was chief of police of a small Cape Cod town and had four solid sightings (two from one person) of a mountain lion in my town. I’m pretty sure it was of the same animal. No idea where the thing came from. Oh, and one of the witnesses was my wife. She was coming back from an ambulance run (she was an EMT/Firefighter at the time) in the early morning hours and saw the animal near our home.
