The most famous Cajun song ever - the state anthem, almost! Doesn't say a word about Louisiana, but LA is the only place I've ever heard it...Jolie Blon
Another Cajun song - Allons a Lafayette - (Let's Go to Lafayette).
Cotton Fields Back Home - Johnny Cash...short song and barely in LA, but hey... !
I always put Pat Green's song "Rain in Lafayette" in LA, but I think technically since he's a Texas boy it's probably about the Texas town...doesn't say it, though, so I'll make it Louisiana!
Ani DiFranco's "Millennium Theater" talks about New Orleans, as does Eliza Gilkyson's "Dream Lover," which is kind of similar to Bobbie Gentry's "Fancy" mentioned earlier in the thread

I think it's probably Lafayette, Louisiana too. Green also has another song on that same album entitled "Louisiana Song". But, there is a Lafayette in Texas too so?
And those Cotton Fields lyrics . . . I always changed that "It was down in Louisiana, Just about a mile from Texarkana," to "Sixty five miles from Texarkana". That would put those cotton fields just a bit north of Shreveport and definitely in Louisiana. While growing up in that area we made those trips to Texarkana so many times that the distance is etched in my memory. I'd rather not say what junior high age boys were doing in Texarkana (at night) back then but it sure was fun.
This is one of my favorites, done by a local... Marc Broussard and it is called "Home".. I challange you not to to some foot tapping while you listen to this one! This really has bayou sound that I love. Marc Broussard Home Music Video on Yahoo! Music
Dr. John Iko Iko! Don't get anymore New Orleans than Dr. John or Iko Iko!
maybe i just missed it but i didn't see any one mention "leavin' louisiana (in broad daylight)" - as many times as i've tried to leave it behind and start a life some where else- i always get pulled back here!
Yes Sir....best Louisiana song out there. "Well, you get down the fiddle and you get down the bow, kick off your shoes and you throw 'em on the floor. Dance in the kitchen till the morning light...Louisiana Saturday night."
Makes me think of the good 'ol Red Dirt music we got here in Oklahoma and North Texas.
