Default Louisiana songs

I meant to do this long ago...it just needs to be done. Makes for a cool mix-cd.

What are some Louisiana-related songs you can think of?

Here's what I can come up with:

"City of New Orleans" (I know only the Arlo Guthrie version)

"Callin' Baton Rouge" Garth Brooks

"Thibodaux, Louisiana" Marcia Ball

"Crescent City," "Lake Charles," "Bus to Baton Rouge" Lucinda Williams

"Louisiana Blues" Muddy Waters

"Louisiana Rain" Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

"I Wish I Was in New Orleans" Tom Waits

"Down at the Twist and Shout" Mary Chapin Carpenter

(someone please correct me if any of that's inaccurate)

Some from my region:

Would They Love Him Down in Shreveport - don't know who actually wrote it, but it's been performed by the Oak Ridge Boys and George Jones.

Fannin Street - Huddie Ledbetter (Leadbelly)

Ledbetter Heights - Kenny Wayne Shepherd (this is also the name of the album)

Just about all of Hurricane Chris' rap songs are about Shreveport.

For the rest of Louisiana, I have to agree with Marie LaVeaux and would like to add New Orleans Ladies to the lineup.

What a fun topic!

House of the Rising Sun - The Animals

Them Old Cotton Fields Back Home - Cotton Fields Back Home / When I was a little bitty baby mp3 midi free download beach motel Sechelt bed breakfast (Mamma always used to sing this one when doing chores.)

You are My Sunshine - Jimmie Davis

MG song:

Big Bass Drum - Dr. John

Ain't No Place to Pee on Mardi Gras Day - Benny Grunch

Honorable Mention:

Java - Al Hirt (Not exactly a "Louisiana" song, but Dad grew up across the street from Al and remembered him practicing on the front gallery after school. I just had to bring him up in here somewhere. Java was on Honey in the Horn, which was routinely played while we were growing up.)

Default as the door is open...

Hi.. begging everyone's pardon for barging in from Southern Indiana, but the topic caught my eye as i work in music.

Jason's refering to Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn, and to "Fancy" by Bobbie Gentry, also covered by Reba (thanks jason, great songs)

Howzabout...

Leon Everette "Hurricane",

Son Volt "Windfall" ('catching an all-night station, somewhere in Louisiana, sounds like 1962, sounds like Heaven')

Steely Dan "Pearl Of The Quarter," for rhyming "Shrine of The Martyr" with "red beans & rice for a quarter"

Poco "Heart of the Night"

Jerry Reed "Amos Moses"

Tricia Yearwood "On A Bus to St. Cloud" has a verse about praying in a church in downtown New Orleans

and Mel McDaniel "Louisiana Saturday Night" which sounds very much like Saturday nights in Western Kentucky when I was growning up

Thanks again for letting me interlope
Erick
