What's Pineville Like?
Looking to retire in city with "small town feel". What are the best areas to purchase a home with acreage? Looking for a good "fishing hole". Tell me about the paper mill odor. Would appreciate any info you can share with me.

In addition to Pineville, there are other suburbs (Ball, Tioga) nearby. There are also rural areas like Deville. On the Alexandria side of the Red, you have several (Cleco, Kincaid) lakes to the west of town. And you hvae subdivisions along LA 28 west. To the south of town there is Woodworth, which despite being a known speed trap, has some nice rural subdivisions.

I live in Alexandria and I have never noticed the paper mill odor much even in Pineville. However, I rarely go to the area immediately near the paper mill. The mill is located off of Old Marksville Highway southeast of Pineville. The Highway 28 East area is the most desirable part of the Pineville area, but there are also nice areas in Tioga and Ball, which are north of Pineville.
In addition to reservoirs such as Cotile, Kincaid, Rodemacher, and Indian Creek, the Red River is also a popular fishing spot.

Folsom, LA is across the lake on the northshore. It is a great place to retire. Only 2 stop lights in the whole city. You get lots of acreage there.

Note to those reading who aren't from Louisiana - the "northshore" is an area just to the north of Lake Pontchartrain in southeast Louisiana. Immediately to the north of the lake are rapidly growing New Orleans suburbs. Further north is a more rural area, and THAT is where Folsom is. Folsom is NOT near Pineville/Central Louisiana.
