Relocating to Hammond, LA
I currently live in Springfield, Missouri and will be moving to Hammond, LA in the next six months. I know nothing about the area, the cost of living, the people, wages, etc. Any specific information I could get would be greatly appreciated. I am a 25 year old, single female and I am very nervous about moving so far away from everyone I know. Also, what kind of laws does Louisiana have about gun control? Is there a conceal-and-carry law? Are there any laws I should know about, whether they be weird or ones I am more likely to come across due to the politics of the area? THANKS!

Hammond is a small but growing town. It's at the crossroads of I-12 and I-55, so it's gotten suburban growth from Baton Rouge and New Orleans. Cost of living is reasonable, but insurance (car, homeowners) will likely be higher in La. Don't know about wages since where you're working is not specified, but La is a low wage state. We passed conceal carry in 1996, but I don't know the specifics of the legislation. Also, the mall at Hammond is being renovated to become more of an open air mall.

Also Hammond is a college town. SLU is located there. |

Very good point (and a serious omission  ). And Southeastern's enrollment has been rapidly increasing. Plus, you have the Strawberry Festival in next door Ponchatoula. And for those who may be interested, Britney Spears' hometown of Kentwood is 20-30 miles up the road from Hammond. |
