About the only place you'll see a significant number of French speakers is an area generally south of US 190 and west of the Mississippi River down to the outskirts of metro NO. And even then, you need to get out in the rural areas of that region to hear much French spoken.

actually, the truck terminal where I dispatch at has several mechanics and drivers who frequently just bust out in cajun french on their break talking to each other. Its neat to be sitting there and witnessing cajun culture in a random part of the day. theyve even brought in accordions and played a bit of french music. These guys live out around Maxie, Iota, Duson, Crowley, Rayne, and some closer to the coast. Generally all around Lafayette and surrounding small towns you are likely to hear some French spoken at some point, be it on TV, radio, or just idle chat in line at a grocery store.

Anole is on a distinguished road
There is a pocket of folks who still speak French in Lafourche parish. Communities like Choupic, Chackbay, Bayou Bouef, Kraemer. These areas are off the beaten path. If you go south on La. 1 near Raceland, Lockport, Golden Meadow, Cutoff, and to the gulf you will also encounter French speaking folks. I am sure there are other spots but these are the ones that come to mind in the southeastern part of the state.
