Provenance, Southeast Shreveport/SuperWalmart in Mansfield.
Was talking to the head of the Chamber of Commerce in Mansfield during my last trip to North T-Bend and he was telling me about the new SuperWalmart going in near Mansfield. Anyone know any more about that?
Also, what about that new development known as Provenance near the I-49 Southern Loop Interchange. Promos look pretty fancy! Know of anymore development planned for that area or North Desoto or Red River Parish?
It brings "civilization" a bit closer to my lake property. Anybody know anything about Lake Wallace in northern Desoto? I hear it is a wooded lake--that means lots of trunks and stumps and no recreational boating? How about fishing?
Anyone know about the lignite development around there. I may post separately something on that. Thanks for any information.

Yeah the Mansfield Civil War Battlefield is one giant strip mine now. Groups have tried to save the battlefield, but we're losing it one strip at a time.
Provenance is to be a new suburb, essentially, though it's currently in the beginning stages. Within 10 years it should be home to some 10,000 residents, have its own shopping area, school, post office, etc. If you get a chance to check it out, you should.
All I know about the new Super Wal-Mart in Mansfield is that they're building one. Sorry, I don't know any details. There is also a new, very large, upscale Super Wal-Mart being constructed in the Shreve City area of central Shreveport. This will be the fifth store in Shreveport-Bossier proper, and the 7th in the metro area.

As an outsider looking in--until I actually settle in your neck of the woods--I think Provenance will attract much more development. The key is not only a warmer climate for retirees but the University medical center. I sure hope South Shreveport in general starts to look up cause it is really dirty and industrial in most areas. The first time I flew into the airport and started south on Hwy 171 to T-Bend--cause I often avoid Interstates so I can get a feel for the land--I was sort of depressed. Is this the place nearest me for amenities?--I asked as I headed into North Desoto Parish. Good thing I did not take a tour of the lignite mines
All that aside, as I left the south Metro area I began to feel better. And I actually like Mansfield. It has the potential to be a neat little Southern town.
I have yet to go to Logansport. Some tell me that is scenic on the river.
Are there any horse farms south of Shreveport? Do the lakes in Desoto /Caddo/ Red River parish have any potential for development? Ever been to Lake Wallace? I really think that with most people having Bossier, etc. on the brain for amenites and development one could get in on the ground floor in south Shreveport for future growth.
Don't the lignite mines have to reclaim the land? Is there potential for recreational property on reclaimed land? Too bad about the historic site as there are no doubt artifacts and even graves that are disturbed. I would think they could give that a wider berth.
Well, so long for now.

Wal-Mart
Wal-Mart is abandoning the shopping center on Washington Avenue where it rented space for the last 20+ years. It purchased land on the northern side of Mansfield, constructed a new store scheduled to open this spring, and has plans to level the land around it and build more stores on that side of town. What wll happen to the small shop owners left behind in the other center remains to be seen. The south side of Mansfield is the older area, and with Wal-Mart leaving there's just no telling what will happen.
However, the parish is expanding the school right across the street from the old Wal-Mart store, so maybe that will keep some business on that side of town.

Thanks for Mansfield update, Cissi.
I was sort of concerned when a friend from Many told me that old Walmart was still doing business this past Summer because I thought the new one was supposed to open in 2007. So now I know it is still in the process of being built and it is indeed coming. I will be spending more time on the North end of the lake this coming Summer and will be taking a few more trips into Mansfield. Look forward to seeing the new store. It looks like the southend of town will be sort of slow for the time being. Thanks again for the update. God Bless.
