Teaching and living in Natchitoches Parish (Shreveport: rent, to buy, schools)

In about one year from now I would like to move to Natchitoches parish and I will be a first year teacher. My husband is disabled and would need to move a little north of ville platte. We often take trips to Shreveport to the Veterans hospital and we fell in love with natchitoches but would like to live anywhere in the parish. Any thoughts to the schools and housing situations would greatly appreciated. Our children are grown and this is a 2nd career for myself.

Would welcome you here in our area. Have family who teach here. Schools can be viewed on state website so you can compare for yourself. Housing has been a little pricey intown, but more affordable outside immediate city if you're looking to buy. Rent I'm not sure about, but I think you'll be OK with that also. Keep me posted.

I had a cousin who attended Northwestern State University many years ago. I always enjoyed my visits in Natchitoches and seeing the Cane River, having picnics in the park. This is one area I want to relive and visit on my way west. Hummm can't believe I made such a boo boo, on the Florida thread I had typed South-West University as many times I visited the university. The more I see the movie, "Steel Magnolias" the more I long for that visit. I wish you all the sincere luck in Natchitoches.
