Wink Moving to Pineville, Louisiana

I have been offered a job in Pineville, LA. A recently graduated from college, single and 24 years old. I live in Georgia. I am used to Atlanta, Savannah and other cities - going out to nice restaurants, shopping, partying on special occasions and dealing with a diverse active group of people. I am an Africian American, but I am used to associating with a mixture of people. I am just wondering about what this area has to offer as far as the above, because I do not want to go to a retirement home (smile)

Pineville has some stores and a couple of restaurants but the majority are located across the river in Alexandria. Alexandria has a mall and an assortment of chain restaurants as well as some local places.

Pineville as a "dry" city lacks nightclubs and alcohol serving restaurants. Pineville is heavily Baptist and has a small Baptist university called Louisiana College.

The Alexandria-Pineville area isn't what you would call an exciting place. It has the reputation of being more of a quiet, conservative, family oriented area. If you decide to move here, don't expect to find many similarities with Atlanta. Alexandria does have a couple of small festivals including Mardi Gras.

Pineville within the city limits is about 70% white and 26% african american . Outlying areas near Pineville, such as Ball and Deville are almost exclusively white. Alexandria is the most racially diverse area with a population that is about 55% black and 42% white. The hispanic and asian populations are low throughout the area.

Hope this helps.

Default might not be the place for you

I have spent quite a bit of time in Pineville. It is a very quiet, unexciting place. There is little in the way of nightlife, very few good restaurants, not much to do otherwise. If you are used to an exciting city, this is not the place for you. If you are an older person looking for a quiet, little town, then Pineville is fine. My parents retired there and love it. They are in their 60s.

do your self a huge favor and dont move here...i am a white girl and the people here are very racist.they are stuck back in the 1940s with their racist ways. there are no good resturants here ..the people are rude (southern hosptlty is a myth they tell themselves) they have a good ole boy mentality. i moved here from NY and never have seen people this rude and stupid...i hate it here and cant wait to get the heck out of this dump. there is one mall and the stores in it blow. there is NO night life what so ever. your in atlanta......i would stay there if i were you or look for somewhere other than lousyana to move to. the best thing about this state, the roads leading out of it. there is a high population of mentally handicaped people here i think it is from the inbreeding they do...marrying your first cousin if ok and acceptable here. Run run the other directions...i am white and i have noticed the people here are racist.......i have to listen to white people use the n word all the time..my kid never said it until we moved here...you are used to a beautful city and i would think you would think you stepped off into a third worlds country here if you lived here i feelt that way....just my honest opinion of this place......take it for what it is worth......

Alexandria is better than Pineville but it isn't Atlanta by any stretch of the imagination! If you were married and settled, or retirement age, maybe. I grew up in Alexandria, from K-12th grade, and was happy to leave.

Wasn't there an issue recently about a restaurant wanting to locate in Pineville but didn't because the area across the Red River (Pineville, Ball, Tioga) was dry ?

I just feel compelled to respond when people want to make Louisiana out to be this horrible place. It's certainly not perfect, but there is a certain charm to it

If you are not living in the New Orleans Metro area, It is not worth the relocation.
