Would be interested in any word on leasing activity on the Hainesville Shale in Northwest Louisiana. If you have been contacted for a lease--how long is the duration of the lease. I hear some pretty fantastic sums have been paid out. Anyone know about activity specifically in Desoto and Sabine Parish. I am especially interested in the North Toledo Bend area around Converse. Thanks.

I correct myself. I had a good friend in college named Don Haines. So I mistakely used his name.

I don't know specifics, but I do know that DeSoto Parish recently received a check for $28 million for lease rights from Chesapeake Energy. And royalties on top of that will be gravy.

And if you think that was wild.... International Paper just sold 13,000 acres of gas rights to (again) Chesapeake Energy for $263 million. That's just over $20K per acre, and that per acre figure is a number that is commonly being reported by others. And again, that still doesn't factor in royalties once production gets going.

I ran across a website that has a lot of info about the Haynesville Shale. It's called Go Haynesville Shale It has a lot of info for the general population in that area asking the same questions that everyone wants to know-- if they are lucky enough to have property in the trend. Check it out.

Smile Great site! Thanks Anole.

I joined the Haynesville group. I even found the guy who presently owns the mineral rights! I have owned the land for 2 years and if there is no production in the next 8 years I have rights. Any new leases after that time must be negotiated with me. Too bad I can't cash in, now. But the road into my land has been upgraded by Ellora Oil so I have the benefit of that. Thanks again!

Only speculation, but I've heard the Tuscaloosa shale across south MS and the northern part of the LA "Florida Parishes" will be the next big hot spot for this kind of activity.
Doesn't help me any though. I have no personal interests in either location. Darn!

Another good site for information is tigerdroppings.com. Go to the Money Talk forums and look for threads on the Haynesville. Some knowledgeble posters, some decent info sharing, and some minor flame wars. Ignore those.

We have property in the area and own the mineral rights, but were told it's too far north where the Shale thins out. We're more than likely are in Cotton Valley, though. We have one Cotton Valley well already.

Wish you well, and hope you can cash in soon. The good folks of NW LA. deserve it. It's long past due, IMHO.

Do you really think it's only speculation? The companies doing the leasing are putting their money where their mouth is. Some of Desoto Parish residents have become overnight millionaires.

I believe he's talking about speculation surrounding the Tuscaloosa Shale, not the Haynesville Shale.

Sounds a little like Jed Klampett and the Beverly Hill Billies. Mansfield and Desoto County in general could sure use the revenue to improve their infrastructure and overall quality of life. Maybe one of those "millionaires" will want a lake house. I have enough land to provide the room and then some.

Yes, I do hope this is the shot in the arm a very depressed but beautiful area needs. I would love to see the "New dowtown Mansfield" develop and more development on North Toledo Bend in general.

I will "hang in there" on the mineral rights--but any improvement in roads, et. al. is a big help to me. I have taken timber off my land--selective cut--and can get more off of it in about 6 years--so surface rights have yielded something.

It is a beautiful stretch along the lake and I love the big water view. I am really hopeful that this will lift the whole area into a better quality of life--medical, educational, et. al.

And kudos to our forum for providing so much information! God Bless.
