FEMA is a joke. Knowing that Gustav was projected to go up the I-49 corridor, they supposedly stored supplies in Alexandria for south Louisiana, only for them not to be able to be distributed for a day and a half afterwards because ALEX was hit hard. Then some radio network said that actually those supplies never made it to Alexandria from Texas.
I learned a long time ago not to depend on the federal government. Anything you get from them (if anything) is lagniappe. I know people are quick to say that we shouldn't depend on the feds for anything, but in a disaster, there are a certain number of basic provisions that should be provided to those in need for survival. People forget that there are many poor and destitute all over the country that could barely fend for themselves prior to any disaster, so something like this just makes their situation that much worse. I like Jindal's remark concerning FEMA aid "we'll believe it when we see it".

Finally I have a chance to get online. We did all right during the storm. We had a minimal roof leakage upstairs around one of our dormers. We lost an limb off of the live oak in my back yard that had a circumferance of about 8 feet. Other than that, just alot of leaves and tiny branches to clean up. My brother from Lockport and my sister from Morgan City are both back home and I have my house back. My brother got severe roof damage and his whole roof is now covered in blue tarp. My sister got a tree on her garage and some siding blew off, but her main house is fine. I hope that all of you are safe and that your losses are minimal. I can't thank God enough that all of my family is safe and that none of us lost anything that cannot be replaced.

Good to hear you and your family are doing alright.

I think most of the major intersection traffic lights are up and running again, but there are still some out and some flashing. It's amazing to see how much of certain areas still don't have electricity. I hope Ike doesn't knock any of those loose limbs out of the trees and cut off our electricity again. I'd like to watch that LSU game.
