Default Driving West

We are driving from Florida to California, leaving this Wednesday, Sept. 17. It was suggested that I take I-10 to Lafayette and then I-49 to I-20. Is the area around Lafayette unaffected by the storm. Does that route make sense?

According to LaDOTD, I-10 is open through Louisiana. You'd have to check TxDOT and maybe Houston Transtar to see what's going on in Houston. I know there was water over I-10 in places. I imagine most of it has drained by now, but there may be some localized flooding still in metro Houston. There are other routes around it (I-610) or Beltway 8. Check on those.
If you're driving all the way across country though, the detour to Shreveport isn't going to add that much time to your journey. Just use I-20 to bypass DFW. Depending on what time of day you're going through, traffic can be a mess there. The drive along I-20 west of Abilene gets real boring real quick. But it might be a benefit instead of having to deal with Houston right now.

I'm sure I can live with the boresom better than the probable problems I'd encounter on Rte 10 around Houston. I'll take I-20 from Shreveport until it meets back up with I- 10 in far western Texas. Thank you.

We are on the road from Florida to California right now! We are in Shreveport of the night- took I-10 to New Orleans and then I-49 I think to I-20. So far, so good. We will take it into Dallas and then catch the 10, like you said. I am DREADING going through TX tomorrow! We took the 10 through TX in May and it was a boring hell. I am so scared we will break down in the middle of nowhere or something. Heres to a safe trip for both of us. Caliifornia or bust!!
