You didn't drive in the areas I drive in! lol Of course most of my driving is at rush hour, and traffic along I-20 backs up and often stops at rush hour. I-20, Airline Drive, Benton Road, Bert Kouns, Youree Drive, and downtown are all pretty bad at rush hour, but again it won't compare to a larger city at all.

That's good, though, if he doesn't think we have any traffic, that would be a plus for him. Hope it works out, but if the Atlanta thing works out I can't blame you for going there. Atlanta, however, DOES have traffic. lol

Thanks to the Louisiana state budget issues, the job search was put on hold until at least June 2009. It doesn't appear we'll be setting up shop there. Thanks to everyone, especially Hindsight 20/20 and SBC metroguy for your super valuable info... I really appreciated it!

i see you're not coming anymore, but i will still post my 2c, perhaps sbcmetroguy will comment on it. when i moved to sbc i read a lot of this forum and sbcmetroguy seemed knowledgeable.
so a few comments imho:

traffic in parts of shreveport: eerily quiet, i keep asking myself where are those people at 7am, why are the roads empty at that time? however, here the rush hour is at lunch time, everybody goes out to eat, avoid driving around noon. it seems to me there a lot of people, especially women, who don't work, they just go out to eat. everybody here seems to shop on saturdays. for me, saturday is the sabbath so luckily i am not impacted by the traffic as usually i don't go out on saturday.

highland can be a very nice area, depends where in highland you live. at least for me (i like pre 1940 homes) highland is more than ok.

you said something about hospitals. i cannot speak for all, but i would advise you to look past the higher salary they offer as opposed to other cities. i won't go as far as calling it bait and switch, but...
and i'll leave it at that as i am still here.

some of the schools are ok.

the shopping is ok, a wholefoods would be nice, but you get used with what you have.

you get used with everything: when i moved here i was thinking: man, this is so freaking ugly, how can they live here? now, it seems to me like everything looks ok, i find some parts really charming.

weather: pretty mild, probably i would rate it in top 10% of the places to live in the country when it comes to weather.

air quality: no brown clouds as far as i can tell; not sure about those refineries on the road to dallas.

now, for the hard part:

while many people are genuinely nice, i have yet too see so much hypocrisy as i've seen here. a lot of rich white folks i met here are praising Jesus every five minutes, while at the very same time they try to scrwe you every way they can.

i know it sounds like i am an intolerant one since i mentioned race, money and religion in the same phrase. don't get me wrong, it's not my intention to stereotype, but my experience was just that and i stand by my words. i would take the "in your face" chicago or new york or (your non-southern city here) style any day of the week as opposed to "meow-meow, we love you" then "scrwe you" two-faced tactics that i experienced in shreveport. while they got a lot of press lately about corruption, and the good old boys network is alive and well (imo), i'd say that this guy jindal is a good, smart and hardworking guy and he might change something if the good people of LA care to help him. btw, i saw here bumper stickers with "palin-jindal 2012". wow, it's like saying: "3rd grader-einstein for nobel prize". why would an intelligent person like jindal want to run as a vp for a person who takes a bunch of words, dumps them in random order and then calls that a phrase? but i digress...

Good stuff! Unfortunately, though, during the Summer months you'll see those brown clouds around the horizon. Not sure if they're from Dallas or the entire area, but they will show their ugly heads eventually.

ABSOLUTELY! Don't get me wrong, I know there are some genuinely nice people here... I've met some of them in my lifetime. But as you mentioned, there are some major hypocrites. You're not alone... most people won't comment on them for fear of "looking bad" in others' eyes, but I don't give a crap about that. These people are the very reason why I've never been able to find a church here I like, as well as the very reason why I began ever questioning God and religion in general. Not pushing my views on people here, but just trying to explain how I feel.

I never saw the Palin-Jindal bumper stickers (lucky me). While I did vote for Jindal, simply because I liked his promising, upbeat attitude and wanted to see a fresh face, I'd have to roll my eyes at that bumper sticker! lol

In short, I do love it here because this is home, it would be stupid of someone from this region to deny that, while we have a church on basically every corner, we have some of the meanest, cruelest people here who are disguised as "friendly southern folks". I believe there is less of this in places like Chicago and San Francisco... two places I would absolutely love to live.

Hi SBC and Arrivederci
Happy new year to you both. Lemme chime in here.

I am convinced after almost my lifelong experience here that this area has way too much emphasis on "religion" and not enough on practical living. What do I mean?

1.) Treat your neighbor good. You don't have to be a bible thumper to do that.

2.) Stop running around with that cloak of Christianity wrapped around you. I have had to endure it all my life and dogma , legalism etc. doesn't make a **** to me. Some man edicted it or interpreted scripture to state those things. Yet I see people everyday who are horribly mistreated by these people who claim stuff like this. I have heard people who claim that only witness and saving are what they should do but that is pretty weak to my when you don't have it in your heart to HELP someone.

3.) Use your time wisely and educate yourself. I do each day. I read, learn something NEW.

4.) Give thought more to things of political and racial nature. Don't "join the crowd". The "crowd" has been a disappointing bunch to say the least, ala Mr. and Mrs. Shreveport Bossier.

5.) Make it a good new year.

Default Brown Clouds in S'port-Bossier during Summer?

This actually may be from the controlled burning which takes place on the BAFB East Reservation and in other areas by the Forestry Dept. as a means of fire control.
