Default HOA Question...

Does anyone know anything about Homeowner Association laws by chance in Louisiana? I purchased a lot/home in a subdivision that did not have a homeowners association in place...3 years later, one was formed and all the sudden I am hit with outrageous dues. There were restrictions when I built which I abided by but none of them stated it was MANDATORY that all homeowners be a part of the association. The restrictions were amended 3 years later and that "clause" was put in there. Wouldn't I fall under "grandfathered" since I had already built and lived here before that was required? HOA's suckkkkkkkk. Power hungry people with nothing else to do. I agree with the restrictions to protect our home values, etc..but being ORDERED to pay dues when they offer no amenities and to come in so long after to do this...and try to put a lien on my property is not making me a happy person

I think you'd have to speak with a lawyer. I too hate HOA. There's been a recent case in Florida in which a family put out American Flags and "welcome home" signs for their daughter who is in the military. Within a few hours the association were removing the signs and flags because someone complained that they could show political support for the war. Bunch of Nazis in my opinion.
