Also in that area a lot of great stores and restaurants. Shreveport around Youree Drive seems to be the place to be in the Shreveport area. Several new stores, outlits, restarurants...great place to live. alot of movie producers have dicovered us and we have had a lot of filming here for while now. We also have great schools, colleges. This city is old but getting newer every day. Come visit!
Hi CiCi, I'm thinking of that area. I was recently down there visiting family and just hated to return to NY. What lovely people in the S-BC area!

How are the prospects for jobs? I am a secretary/administrative assistant with 20+ years' experience.

I appreciate any help. Thanks!

We also looked at Houma....we love it there but have friends in Mandeville so will look for property around there first.
I have been looking in that area, all around St Tammy I believe it is called. I received a real estate book from that area and have fallen in love with many of the older homes in that area, I love older homes and towns!!!! Mandeville seems to have a lot of that in the area, which really appeals to me. It is kinda a toss up right now, north of NO or south, a very hard decision!

I have heard great things about that area, but our main concern is not having access to water. My husband is an obssesive fisherman, and I just love being close to the water. We moved up to Virginia for a short time, but realized it was not for us, I felt confined and trapped! I see that you talked about the riverside though, that sounds nice, and the pics I have seen of Shreveport are lovely. Thanks!

I think north of NO is the place to be if you decided to move. ST Tammany Parish is one of the fastest growing areas in the region. It is close to New Orleans without most of the problems. You can go to the city when you want, yet live in a nice area. There are plenty of opportunities for sportsmen and fishermen. Mandeville, Covington, Madisonville, Abita Springs etc. are all nice communities.

Ticaron, I am also in the same position. I'm not really sure. I currently work for a casino. People say casino's pay more. You may want to check some local job sites. I do think theat most of this area offers clerical work though. Good luck and thanks for the nice comments about my city!!

Mandeville and Madisonville are both beautiful towns with lots of character and near water. Also both just made Relocate-America's 2007 list of the top 100 places to live. My parents keep a boat in Madisonville and I just love it every time I am there. I'm originally from Baton Rouge and don't think I would live there again, just a personal opinion.

Hi Faerie. We have several lakes. My parents actually live on the lake front in Benton, LA. That's about 8 miles north of Bossier City. That's the area I mentioned was growing and nice, and also peaceful. THey enjoy where they live. The lakes are beautiful. My step-father has a boat and is actually into fishing all the time. He loves it too. =)

If moving north of Lake Pontchartrain and south of I-12 (which includes Mandeville and Madisonville), check the flood zone on any property you are considering. Some of these areas are at risk of flooding and are evacuation zones.

Thanks, thats is a good point to keep in mind. I am sure flood insurance is impossible to get in some areas!

It sounds lovely. I can't wait to be in the area so we can explore!
