Default White Castle, Louisiana

It is my understanding that an old church, built in the 1840s, was torn down in White Castle, Louisiana this past fall. Much of the cypress from the structure was salvaged and I have secured 27 doors for my new home which were made from the cypress in the original church.

This is the sole extent of my knowledge and I would like any and all information about the church. Interested in the name of the church, physical location, history, relevant facts, etc.

All help and information most appreciated.

I am interested in what you know about White Castle, Louisiana. My dad was A.W. Templet son of Omer Templet and Berthe Folse of White Castle, LA. I have a cousin Vincent Gautreaux that I believe still lives in the White Castle area.

Default salvaged cypress

I believe the name of the church is Mount Zion Missionary Baptist. If this is correct, then I have great memories of the "old church" because I was baptized there in the fifties. My family were members until we moved away. When the first renovation took place there was some disappointment among the cogregations older members. They really did not want to tare the church down. I have been told that the cypress that was still a part of the church had been infested with termites. I thought that was strange because the reason cypress was used in that part of Louisiana is because it was thought to be very sturdy.
