Considering moving to Bossier, Louisiana need info
I am interested in moving to Bossier, Louisiana. I am a single parent with a fourteen year old son. Placing my son in a great school and safe community would be such a relief for me. My son loves participating in community atheletic programs. Also I am looking to rent a house in a quiet progressive diverse community, with the intentions of placing my son in a good school. Looking for employment is another concern. Any suggestions?

There is already a thread going on Shreveport/Bossier. You may have to check it out if you don't get any bites on yours. Good luck. I live 60 miles from Bossier city and I think it is a wonderful place. I'm a small town guy and don't care to live in a place that size but we love to go there to eat and let my wife shop.

I grew up in Bossier City and must say it's a nice, progressive city to live in. As far as good high schools in Bossier, look into Airline High in north Bossier and Parkway High in south Bossier. Both are good schools and in great, growing parts of the city.
Parkway High will be moving a little further south in the near future. A very nice, new, large campus is under construction around the extreme southern city limits of Bossier. But it won't be out there alone for long, as the city has plans to extend its riverfront thoroughfare, Arthur Ray Teague Parkway, straight into that area. And I fully expect for new homes to be under construction in that area of Bossier again once the volatile national economy stabilizes. In south Bossier there aren't any major shopping areas, but just across the river in south Shreveport is one of this region's largest shopping areas.
In the Airline district, you would be near another major shopping area and very close to I-20 and I-220. There are a lot of nicer subdivisions out that way, and if you went too far north you could look into Benton High School. Benton is a small town that has become a suburb of Bossier City. Bossier is literally about to swallow Benton up since there is barely any visible break in development along Benton Road and Airline Drive between the two municipalities.
Hope this helps.

I live in Bossier, very close to Barksdale AFB, and we rent a clean and nice three bedroom home in a safe feeling neighborhood for $850/month.
From what I hear, the schools are good around here and their sports teams seem to be of interest to the community.
I've never felt unsafe here. This community is very, very calm and peaceful in my opinion. It's currently 07:15pm and I can't even hear any traffic outside the open window in my office.
Your employment options will greatly depend on your education, work history and area(s) of expertise. Personally, I was out of work for a month when I first arrived here but I'm an Inorganic Chemist so that made things more challenging; had I been an office person, I could have gotten hired much faster.

Jobs
The job situation here can be tricky. I moved here in May 2008 with the impression I was in high demand - already multiple interviews lined up after multiple phone interviews. Once I got here it was a total change - no one was in a rush to hire. Finally after two months I found a different position. Probably worked out for the best because I was told that in order to be promoted in the businesses I had applied, one had to be male - and I was told this by several people in the same and different businesses. Good luck!

That's interesting. I graduated from PHS a dozen years ago - what are they going to do with the old campus?

The old PHS campus is to become Elm Grove middle school and will retain that name I believe. The old Elm Grove down in the town named the same will become an elementary school and the school next to PHS named SunCity I believe is in limbo. Maybe a special needs or pre-k, I don't really know if they have decided.

Wow, that's crazy! I went to Sun City, Elm Grove, and Parkway. The area was changing even the last few years I lived there (I left in 2001), but it sounds like it might be almost unrecognizable to me now, or will be shortly.
