Red face Bi-racial couple moving to Lafayette

We are a mixed race couple with 2 children. We were wondering how accepting Lafayette is and about the school system.
Needing more info. Also, what is the best rural or suburban areas for us.

Default Still quite racist there

They won't spit in your face, but they'll talk about you behind your back. I was appalled at the number of people who used the "n" word around me thinking because I'm a white chick I would be okay with it.

African Americans are not treated very well in Louisiana. I think they're still fighting the civil war down there.

Public schools are horrible, and private schools are only marginally better. Read the post in another forum from NotImpressed on "What's Not to Like About Lafayette." S/he moved her kids out of state to the Northeast after having a private education only to find they were a year behind their classmates and needed a lot of tutoring to catch up.

Read the Letters to the Editor in the Daily Advertiser and you'll see just how behind the times it is down there. Heck it took them 50 years to build a bridge in River Ranch..... 50 YEARS! And it's not that big of a bridge. It was all politics. They argue about everything down there.
