I think one of the reasonsd Lafayette does so well as a hub city is that there also isnt any animosity between neighboring towns. Its all pretty much gathered into one large area that works more or less together. Carencro blends into Lafayette which blends into Breaux Bridge, Scott and Duson and Youngsville and Broussard.

Yes, I know its wrong-- but I get into this divide as well. My wife actually suggested a home in WM, but I shot that down quickly... Just a long standing rivalries in my life, a bunch of ****.. I mean, WM isn't that bad.. but I could never be happy there and for it to be so close-- I may cross the bridge twice a month...

Being born and raised in Alexandria,Louisiana I would have to pick neither as which one I like best. I would prefer to live in TX. Alex and Monroe really have nothing to offer young people. Yeah you may get a good job in the area but what will you do in your free time? Going to the movies and out to eat gets boring fast. There is NEVER anything going on. You may have a festival now and then but that's few and far between. Those cities are declining in population due to nothing to offer young(20-30's)people. People with kids and elderly fit in well in Alex and Monroe. Sorry to sound depressing but I do love Louisiana and will always be proud of my LA heritage but after traveling and seeing other cities, I hang my hat outside of the state. Oh.. and as far as education goes, Alex may only have LSUA and LC(which is expensive because it's private) but ULM isn't that great of a school either. ULM has a good Pharmacy program. But for some reason almost everyone I come into contact with that went to ULM it took them 5-6 yrs to graduate. Things that make you go Hmmmm.

For entertainment, at least Alexandria has the Paragon Casino only 30 minutes from the center of town. Some of the biggest acts in the country perform here. Wayne Newton and Willie Nelson for example. There is always some well known act appearing at Paragon. This is also one of the largest Indian Casinos in the US. It is definately a major attraction.

TX? Really? Why?
ULM has a lot more to offer than the schools in Alexandria.. ULM has multiple strong programs, not just pharmacy, Moderator cut: rude comment

Monroe doesn't smell bad. West Monroe does because of the paper mill and only on certain days. Why must you spread lies on here? Maybe you visited on the one day a sewer leak happened or something. I can get 10 random people and plop them in the metro and unless they're near a toliet or something-- I guarantee they won't smell anything.

There's also a paper mill southeast of Pineville in a fairly isolated area. I never recall noticing the smell of it, even when in Pineville. This may be because I am used to it, but I rarely hear of people complaining about it.

im tired of this, seriously. Overall Monroe is better because it is more significant than Alexandria due to the fact Alexandria simply is a complimentary city for all the other important cities around it. Monroe is Monroe all by itself, doesnt need any other city to make it Monroe. Alexandria.............. seriously you guys are kidding yourself. You all are speaking of one specific cute area in Alexandria, the commercial growth. What about education, what about crime, what about low income areas, infrustructure, entertainment, community services? Let me ask you guys a serious question? If you exercise and gain muscle mass obtaining sex appeal and incredible attraction, does that make you overall a better person? What about your personality, what about your sense of humanity to where you are considerate of all forms of life other that those who are easily fooled by physical attractions? Thats the problem I have with Alexandria. They're like a nicely dyed easter egg, without being hard boiled on the inside, which means......its unfinished, uncooked. Alexandria you are a outer decorated city, diguising yourself with new buildings, catering to a few nicer strips in town and leaning on the greedy thrives of the more established cities around you. You can never stand out and alone. You will just be a complimentary city, a nice complimentary city.........and with that said.......MONROE WINS!!!! We grow as a whole where people can truley live here, not pass by and say ouuu and ahhhh, then awwwwww when it comes inside the core of Alexandria and sees neglect.
close this thread please, Alexandria your done
