Time to think about growing some cheap FOOD!!!

So this year it looks like the year to do our own food production. I've convinced my spouse to "go Green" by switching over our high maintenance lawn to a no mowing grass lawn and adding garden space - the bigger the better. I tried the No Mow (a low growing) Grass last year on a little spot and loved it so I'm going with that. Besides, I'm already sick of mowing and nothing grows without chemicals anyway.

The food thing I'm new to and have no idea what, how to get things going. What are good fruit trees for the area?

I'm new to gardening so tips are welcome! Seed sharing is also an option (though I have nothing to start).

We eat a lot of food here so any / all info is helpful. Thanks!

Thinking Spring!

Latania, south Louisiana is a great place to grow your own veggies and fruits. In the garden section of city-data forum go to the search tab and type in square foot gardening. There are some folks over there that show you how to start from scratch with pictures and helpful comments. There are other sites on the web-just type in square foot gardening and read. I plan on doing a square foot garden this spring and will probably post in the garden section. Good luck!!!
