Can anyone tell me about Vermilion parish-Abbeville, the housing situations ?
I need a area where French, even if it is Cajun-Cadien French is spoken on a daily basis. I'm not fond of the cities like NO or Lafayette but I've read that Vermilion has the highest percentage of French speaking households in the state.

merci

Default Abbeville

I moved to Abbeville when I was 7 years old and lived there until I went to college at 18. Afterwards, I lived in Lafayette until I was 29, so I have experience with this area. It is true you will meet many nice, hospitable people in Abbeville and Vermilion Parish that speak Cajun French. This is especially the case with older people. I would not recommend living in Abbeville. Unfortunately, there is a large population of uneducated people, and the crime rate is sky high. You can look at the fact that Abbeville has a declining population to show this. I speak from personal experience and wish this was not the case. Erath or Maurice are nicer, smaller towns if you want to live in Vermilion Parish. Do not get me wrong, Abbeville is nice to visit for festivals, restaurants, etc. However, it would be hard to find a safe, decent neighborhood in the city to live in.
