Property Crime 7

Bossier City Population 56,461: Ranked 8th in State

Violent Crime 6

New Orleans Population 484,674: Ranked 1st in State

Violent Crimes 9
Property Crimes 8

Baton Rouge Population 227,818: Ranked 2nd in State

Violent Crime 8
Propert Crimes 8

THEREFORE....OF COURSE SHREVEPORT IS 3RD IN THE STATE FOR CRIME!! IT IS THE 3RD LARGEST CITY IN THE STATE!!

Naturally there is more crime in cities with high population. But compared to Bossier...not all that bad considering size!
I don't understand this. Bossier City has only 1-4 homicides per year, and most years it's in the 1-2 homicides per year category. That would be anywhere from 2-4 homicides per 100,000 people compared to Shreveport's 20+ homicides per 100,000 people. I'm now doubting bestplaces.net (I know I used them as a source already) because there's no way Bossier City's violent crime index is one slot below Shreveport's. It's simply not correct.

I think last year Bossier City had only one murder, which is about how many they usually have.

The Morgan Quitno rankings are more accurate since they use the FBI crime statistics.

I was trying to research Morgan Quitno, and could not find anything that displays where they compile their information from. I also see that you have to pay for their service which always signals a "red flag" to me! Moderator cut: linking to competitors sites is not allowed

You have to remember crime statistics are not simply just homicides, it is a compilation of drugs and alcohol, arrests, and many other factors.

I just found another great website, ya'll should take a look at it. removed. Click on crime statistics at the top right corner and you can information. It has it broke down by what is included, as well as wonderful graphs that compare it to the national average. Pretty neat!

Yes, but that was the violent crimes index, which covers homicide, rape, assault, etc. All of these, with the exception of rape, are low in Bossier.

I saw some of the clip of Shreveport and it seems to be the worst part of it that was filmed. I live about 1 1/2 hrs. away but still go there sometimes. Wouldn't want to live there though. My cousin lives in Shreveport and is a realtor and has been for about 10 years or so. She lives in a very nice nieghborhood. There are other cities though, like Natchitoches or Ruston, they are a bit smaller than Shreveport but they offer competitive colleges.
Good Luck

I agree LSU campus is very beautiful. Baton Rouge isn't bad as a whole. All city's have their problems. I have a friend in Zachary just north of Baton Rouge and it's very nice small town. I have been there twice and have met the neighbors and friends etc everyone is very nice. In fact going back in 2 weeks.

Default Bossier Parish High Schools

I've read everyone's posts and I am really not liking what I am reading about the Shreveport area! That being said, my husband is military and we HAVE to move to the area this summer with the cyber program. Does anyone have any real factual information about the schools? I've looked at greatschools.net, and the numbers look good for Parkway and even better for Cadoo Magnet. I am even willing to pay tuition at Evangel Christian Academy. I need my children to be able to get into college in another state! Does anyone know anything about these schools? Also, if there are any teachers out there, what is the outlook for math teachers? Is it worth teaching in the area? Is the south Bossier area as safe as north Bossier? Where do most military folks live? I am finally getting out of Alabama and Louisiana isn't sounding too much better...

South Bossier and North Bossier are both great areas. South Bossier's biggest issue is traffic in/out of Shreveport at rush hour. Otherwise, not bad. Military people generally live all over, but many live as close to the base as possible (south Bossier, east Bossier, etc.)

It's really not bad here... I will be of as much help as I can... just ask!!
