Red face Moving to Shreveport, Louisiana

My family and i are from New Orleans, but we are currently residing in Baton Rouge where we have been since Katrina. I am considering joining the Shreveport Police Department. We are a close knit family and my five kids are doing well and they are respectful and they are making good grades in school. They have never been into any trouble in school, at home, or with the law and they are teenagers. Can anyone tell me what good areas have houses or apartments for rent as well as good schools.

In Shreveport, you want to be in either Byrd High School or Captain Shreve High School's districts. Magnet schools and private schools are another matter, of course, and this does not include Bossier Parish which has many good schools.

In Shreveport, I would suggest staying south of I20 and east of I49. There are nice exceptions, of course, but I'd just that as a good rule of thumb. Broadmoor is a very nice area that is quite family friendly. Highland is more eclectic and has some nice and less nice areas, but it is quite safe and rental houses are cheaper.

I second the ceejamon recommendation. That's pretty solid advice. The North Higlands area is nice, but the surrounding area is sort of industrial and low income. Since you're from New Orleans you should be familiar with how to play the game up here.
