I can't dispute what I didn't hear myself, but I'll have to see it to believe it.

Schlitterbahn in Lafayette? That would be a coup!
Wow. If this is true it really puts the place on the map. It would become the number one destination in Southwest Louisiana, that is for sure! We await with baited breath more info on this thing.

Sounds good to me. Should keep the frogs happy! And bring good clean environmentally friendly stuff to the community. If you are going to have a waterpark you need to keep the water clean. And us frogs are sensitive about such things.

Personally I think thats a strange area to choose to build a water park. I thought they would choose a major city in La, not so much around nowhere. I guess that could be go though for that area...Hope they do build one though, I heard it was a fun park.

its is true, my family is from Rayne, and we know the people who sold them the land. They bought 150 acres (at a damn good price) and tried to buy the 300 acres surrounding it from the people who own that part. those people were smart enough to say no. Do you have any Idea how much that property will be worth once the park is built!!!!!!!!!!!!! The only reasons i can think why they would put it there, 1. access to I-10 2. Cheap land 3. there is no other reasons lol Now, Reasons not to put it there 1. It is in hurricane territory. 2. Shreveport makes more sense (because it will pull people from east texas, S.E. oklahoma, N.W. and central Miss. Most of Arkansas, and everywhere south of Shreveport, But in Rayne you only pull from I-20 south, S.W. Miss., S.E. Texas,(but if you live in the S.E. Texas area why go to rayne, you are only 4 hours from the galveston location and there is more to do in Galveston.) Essentially you are limiting your draw to 2 directions instead of 4 directions. Galveston and rayne are just far enough apart to prevent 1 hurricane from devastating both parks that would be expensive.
Dont get me wrong, I cant wait for it to come here, I have been to the New Braunfels location 2 times and i went to the galveston location on 6-11-07. It will bring a lot of jobs and development to the area.
Can you say season passes baby!!!!???

why rayne?
Rayne is the perfect place for the water park, and consistent with Schlitterbahn's pattern. Think about it;both of the other locations are about an hour outside of major Texan cities (New Braunsfels is near San Antonio and Galveston is near Houston.) It's these locations that provide everything a large theme park needs: lots of space at a lower price, close access to major roadways, and a large population within surrounding cities to draw from. It also leaves room available for growth. It's also a perfect oppurtunity for economical improvement for the city of Rayne. As a resident of Lafayette, I can't wait!

Water Park in Rayne
It will be built on the north side of I-10 East of Rayne at the nearest overpass before Rayne about 9 miles from Lafayette. It is not a Schlitterbahn. It is being built and operated by a company called Water Park Experts Inc. The name will be Frog Land USA.
The entities who are developing it got GOZone financing from the State for 32 million. The Land it will be located on is still being negociated. Not a sure thing as of now.
The owners of the land have about 800 acres on both sides of I-10. But I heard Schlitterbahn is going to make a higher offer. Might be a bidding war.
