Donaldsonville Info
Hello,
I would like to ask if anyone has any knowledge on Donaldsonville, LA.
My wife and I have been offered (through family) a free house in Donaldsonville and were wondering about the area, crime, schools, job outlook (I know it's about an hour from both New Orleans and Baton Rouge)
Also, the house is near the Sunshine Bridge near the corner of 18 and lemanville cutoff rd. any info would be cool.
We've heard bad things and are still pretty sure about declining the house and heading to Houston anyways.

I'd punt. Donaldsonville is a historical town with plantations nearby and it's on the Miss River. It's also the seat of Ascension Parish government. But it's also near several plants and the west bank of the Miss River is the "red headed stepchild" of Ascension Parish. It's also off the beaten track.

Hum... Donaldsonville or Houston? I'd take Houston.
Donaldsonville is a fairly dead town. There's just not much there. And the location you give is in a lower income neighborhood plus you'd be surrounded by chemical plants. I would advise against it.
I have no love for D'ville schools. If you had a choice, I'd stay in E. Ascension (Prairieville/Gonzales/Sorrento).

Let me add, too, for those wanting to move to Ascension Parish that the west bank (Donaldsonville) and parts of the east bank (most of the area between I-10 and the Miss River, esp near the plants) is the not so nice part of the parish, to put it politely.

We would have been given a free house to live in which is why we were talking about Donaldsonville, My wifes grandmother lived there for like 6 decades but unfortunatley is now in an old folks home and her house is vacant.
What you guys have said is pretty much what I figured. I visted the area back in 2007 and didn't really get that great of a vibe. I wouldn't have considered it if not for the free house thing.
Thanks for the replies.

And that's the best part about this board - those wanting to move to BR sight unseen can get the opinion of locals to where if they don't mind living near a sewer plant, shacks, or ammonia plants, they can do so, And if they're looking for other types of areas, we steer them to the right places

Can you guys tell me what exactly about Donaldsonville is bad ? It looks like we may end up there after all, The Ascension Parish Sheriff's office crime reports really don't look that bad...
Any information on what makes it bad ?
If it's sensitive stuff, feel free to send me a DM.
Thank you !
