Can someone please help me? We are going to be moving to Layfayette La soon and want to know what is a good city around it to live in? We are looking for a safe place and want to know how good the schools are there. If there is any info anyone can give us, I would appreciate it. Any web sites to help.. Thank you!

Why a city "around" Lafayette? Lafayette is a very nice city, if it were me I'd be planning to live there rather than waste my time looking outside of the city.

its much cheaper to live a bit outside the city.
I would recommend checking out Youngsville, Broussard, or Breaux Bridge.

I have spent a lot of time in Lafayette and never found it to be very expensive at all. But if the areas outside the city limits are cheaper, I suppose it might be worth it.

I just come from really small towns and not used to the big city life. I also wanted to know about the schools there.. which ones are good and safe? I know from living near a big city that there can be bad schools.

Lafayette isn't a big city, so no worries there. It's a medium-sized city ... it is definitely growing, but it's not big. Of course our ideas of "big" may differ. I understand how people who are from rural areas tend to prefer those areas in the same way I tend to prefer cities since that is where I've spent my life. I've read on here that Opelousas isn't where you want to be, which surprised me because I thought Opelousas was a decent town. But I bet Innotech's ideas will work out for you ... especially since I have been to both Broussard and Breaux Bridge and both seem nice.

Lafayette is definitely a progressive growing city, but I think overall the change wont feel as drastic as you might think. the city is laid out mainly along a couple big roads and has that small town "everything is on one road" aesthetic. That said, I think youll find it pretty accommodating and everything is easy to understand and figure out. Its worth living here just for the party atmosphere, food, culture, and nightlife. Considering you are from a smaller town I think the traffic might be a bit overbearing at first. but opinions differ as to whether Lafayette has bad traffic or not. Baton rouge is definitely alot worse.
The problem with Opelousas is that it has alot of casinos and bars, and it attracts some shady characters there. But there are nice areas of Opelousas on the southern side of town away from the main highways.
