Default Looking for specific type of communities in Haughton/Benton/Bossier/possibly Ruston

We are looking for what my husband calls a "Stepford community." Something like Legacy in Bossier, but we want to make a list of our options before deciding where to settle. We're basically looking for a small(ish) community where the houses are similar in size and architectural style and where there is a sort of activities center with pool, tennis, clubhouse, etc. where the families meet and socialize. We are a young family (hubby & I are mid-20s, and our kids are 7 & under), so nothing exclusively for old folks. We're interested in Haughton and Benton specifically, but would consider Bossier or Ruston if we found the right kind of place. Any ideas?

In Benton, I have no idea except for the country club (can't think of the name but it's the only one in Benton).

In east Bossier/Haughton, Dogwood South has a community pool/activities area.

In Ruston, I have no clue.

Yes, Palmetto! Thank you. I have a friend who lives near it but I always forget the name. Airline Drive also takes the name Palmetto north of Linton Road.

It depends a lot on the price range that you are comfortable with.

At the low end:

1) Stockwell Place/Lafayette Park
2) There was a new development being built about the time I left town, on Bellevue Road just north of Dogwood.
3) Country Place (on Hwy 80, just east of Brookshire's
4) There are several new (last 10 years or so) developments along Hwy 157, just south of Highway 80
5) Lastly, there is another newer development (Pecan-something) on the NE corner of the Hwy 80, Hwy 157 intersection

At the higher end:

1) Dogwood South
2) Carriage Oaks Crossing
3) Stonebridge
4) Olde Oaks

Places like what you are looking for are a dime a dozen. You can't throw a rock in eastern Bossier without hitting Stepford.

Thanks for all the ideas! We are about 75 miles from Bossier/Shreveport, so we don't know much about the different communities. This is very helpful.

Golf courses and country clubs are obvious choices. It seems if you ruled out Shreveport proper? You may want to consider the area near East Ridge Country Club, I know they have some houses "in the back" and you can use the country club's ammenities. Not sure about the school district, if that's what you're worried about. I only know about good high schools, Byrd and Captain Shreve. Palmetto, by Benton, is nice.

You may want to investigate communities with homeowner's associations, like Country Place in Haughton.

I'm not familiar with Legacy. Don't they have an office off I-20?

Areas in Houston, like Pearland, SugarLand, and The Woodlands, seem like your kind of style.. These places have community pools/golf/area and the houses all look the same on their artificial lakes.. I'd hate it!

I know you'd never consider Monroe, but areas in West Monroe (Indian Lakes) and Calhoun have this type of neighborhood.

Consider Provenance which is located on Southern Loop (next I49 interchange after Bert Kouns heading South). It is supposed to be an independent development which besides housing contains small stores and other ammenities. Prices are from 200,000 to 1,000,000, I believe. The neighborhoods are all in wooded areas and I don't know how far they are taking the development but it may even contain schools (that's what I heard).

The only thing I can think of in Ruston would be Squire Creek Country Club. I am in West Monroe so I don't know Shreveport area very well.
