Bluebonnett
Where is Bluebonnett? Is it a City or an area of a City? How far is it from Baton Rouge? What can you tell me about it? I see a lot of houses/apartments for rent/sale/looking to rent out a room, etc... in Bluebonnett and was curious as to what type of area it is. What about schools (elementary & middle)? Anybody got any pictures??

Bluebonnet is (now) one of the main drags in town which connects with Coursey on one end and extends all the way to Nicholson. Nearly all the residences along it are respectable. The closest school I can think of is Jefferson Terrace Elementary.
As for pictures, I'd go to Google and do a Street View on any section of Bluebonnet.

One of the busiest thoroughfares in town (sadly). There's only a short segment of the street where there are any apartments, and there are two access streets into residential areas, but the rest of Bluebonnet from Coursey to Burbank is wall-to-wall commercial. The residential segment of Bluebonnet closest to Nicholson is adjacent to the high crime areas of Burbank and Gardere.

Thank you! That's very helpful. Doesn't sound like an area I should be targeting. I'll keep looking around for other areas around BR. I have my sites on Zachary, but thought I would see what some other possibilities are (don't want to limit myself). Thanks again!!

Of course, it depends on what you're looking for. The "bad" area referred to was at the extreme southern end. My favorite is the section between I-10 and Jefferson, where you have a mixture of old houses and infill development.

Also, too, the EBR School System is having more problems because of the state taking over schools. So what is their plan ? Why, close down schools and possibly lay off more teachers.

Wow, that sounds like the school district here in Seattle. I can't stand this school district! They want to crowd a bunch of kids in a classroom, with 1 (maybe 2) teachers, and it overwhelming for them. The kids don't get the education they deserve/need either! That's why my son was having so many issues... he had to practically be perfect or they'd call me to come pick him up! He's been labelled since kindergarten (5 years ago). All because he was in an all boys kindergarten class with a childless, female teacher that had previously taught a regular 3rd grade class. I think my son's whole class was labelled.... It's only gotten worse from there... Now my son is in St. Joseph, he finished out his 4th grade year there and did much better (even got 3 awards at the end of the year!!). It's definitely a better fit for him down there. I really hope they don't end up like the school district here... That would be a big mistake!

The EBR school system has been having problems for years between busing, the School Board, and now the state taking over failing schools (and the EBR system's defensive reactions). This (the school syatem) is why we would not recommend living in Baton Rouge itself, unless you wanted to shell out $$ for private schools.

Thanks BRMan. That's definitely good to know. I won't be shelling out any cash for a private school. I like him to be a part of public school, but not if it's at the cost of his education. I will not be living in Baton Rouge (only working). If I can't obtain housing in Zachary, then I will check out some of the other surrounding areas.
Thanks!

Would Ascension parish be a practical option, or are you working downtown ?
