I am sure we can go to your home town, San Antonio and find the same run down places throughout the city.
I'm also sure you will be disappointed with New Orleans when you get here.

Quite the contrary, NOLA was awesome!!!!!!!!!! I got fool about how cool and progressive Lafayette was and it did not live up . I drove around all areas of downtown and around the airport-same results. I shouldn't have to go to some gated community to see progress.
I was very impressed with Morgan City!!!!!!

The non-interstate highways in Alexandria such as MacArthur Drive have alot of development, but not I-49.
Yes, there are many areas of inner city Alexandria that are run-down and high-crime. But there are also areas of the city that are nice.

lol, I promise one day I'll simmer down on plugging the "sexy" Monroe
Now wait a second there buddy, dont you go bad mouthing my sweet Monroe. We are sexy all the way round no matter how you come into town, take your pick!!!
Lets say your coming south from Arkansas on 165 , first of all you gonna get straight bless by the heavenly town of Sterlington, a very clean, family oriented environment thats so sugary you can become a diabetic driving by it. Suddenly, there it is......."Welcome to Monroe" the wooden sign. Afterwards the magic starts, The magnifcent, starlike hollywood environment called "Frenchman Bend". On down you see a few horse stables before you see the Mighty Golden Eagles of the Ouachita Christian high school. Then almighty Northeast Louisiana's own Fortune 500 company(now merged with EMBARQ), CenturyLink formery Centurytel, beautiful gigantic headquarters, with fields of pecan trees as its entrance. On down St. Francis North Hospital, good eats & shopping, bowling alley, skating rings Town & Country Neighborhood, great apt complexes, ULM is off that same hwy, etc, it leads to Louisville Ave., a main commerce street in the interior Monroe.
I - 20 coming from MississippI: The new home of V-Vehicle plant, The Monroe Motor Speedway, Ouachita High School is off I- 20, so is the Airport and the National Guard, Let's not talk about the flagged, well - lite "Welcome to Monroe" sign(which cost $150,000, provided by the monroe garden club) followed by the fantastic Pecanland Mall, Accent Marketing and on down to Downtown Monroe.
Not including the West Monroe side of I-20 if u come in from the west to where the commerce is plentiful with chain restuarants, hotels, and off the hwy are quite a few infamous manufacturing plants(Riverwood, Bancroft, Field Container)
Now even if you southern Louisiana people come in up from 165, you are gonna come in to see country scenery of cotton fields, corn field, cabbages and lettuce, even a pea farm(OCC). Its the poorer side of town but even still, restaurants and hotels, and independent businesses are well kept. The historic Louisiana Landmark, The Ouachita Coca Cola Bottling Company(one of the original first 5 opened in the world), is on the 165 south in Monroe as well as Pepsi.
Even those smaller Hwys you will see good scenery like the 139 you have Black Bayou and Bayou Boeuf.
Welp........lets face it......we are leaving it up, up here in the country with all the city-like fixings, yelp.....guess you might as well leave Monroe outta this dumpy entrance talk, because yea MetroBTR, we are "buttery" baby!!!! Gotta Love Us.

The only areas of Louisiana that I've seen that don't look bad from the interstate are:
Baton Rouge - Coming in from the east on I-10 (you get the sprawl effect). Coming from the east on I-12 (It's all walled in).
New Orleans - Coming from the west on I-10 (it's all walled in with better looking walls). Coming in from the north on the causeway (you get the better end of Metairie). WB Expwy from the south (you instantly get the river and the skyline) I-10 from the east wasn't that bad before Katrina.
Lafayette doesn't look to bad from the interstate, from what I've seen.
Shreveport, Monroe, and Alexandria could use a little scenery. I think NO and BR are the only places the state spends money on actual high beautification.

Wow, you've got a mall and chain restaurants and a welcome to monroe sign.
Coming in to the Baton Rouge Area on I-10 from New Orleans, you have: The Tanger Outlet, Blue Bayou Water Park, Budweiser Company, The monumental Reiger Road crosses, the Mall of Louisiana and Blue Cross, The Shaw Tower (world headquarters for the Shaw Group), The Citiplace complex (which includes Barnes and Noble and a very tall Marriott Hotel), then the interstate crosses City Park Lake and you can see all the beautiful lakefront houses and city park, right before downtown it goes through one bad neighborhood, but most people's eyes are drawn to the bridge and the state capitol building in the distance. At night, the bridge is all lit up as travelers cross the mighty Mississpi. Crossing the bridge is even better going eastbound because of the panoramic view of the city, including Downtown and Tiger Stadium in the distance.

Yeah, we never have properly utilized the idea of service roads and conveniences for the travelers, not to mention the citizens. Its like "Stay on the freeway. Enter city at your own risk."
Looks like little Arcadia has the idea now to make use of I20 traffic. So does Ruston. Minden really needs to get on the ball, but that town is another story. Haughton could do better as well. To all the little towns cloaked in Pine trees: Why miss out on the economic opportunity that I20 provides?

Well excuse me ...all you do is come on here and try to put Monroe on a pedestal and try to make it sound way more amazing than anything else in the state...and I'm glad you're having fun too, because I sure am.

Bold is incorrect, its close to I-20 but you can't really see it. But you can say the same.
So, I guess I stand corrected. Its not the worse.. but good adjectives don't make it apply to real life.
