Start with downtown then head down either Johnston, Ambassador Caffery, or Kaliste Saloom. I-10 is nowhere near what Lafayette is like.

That'd be like judging all of Lake Charles based on what you see driving along I-10 between Iowa and Westlake. Or Baton Rouge just by driving along the "old bridge" and I-110.

Lafayette has nice areas imaterry.. If you would read some past threads I explained that our city is not built off of main highways. I 10 and I 49 dont show the pretty side of our city.. I dont down those areas at all I am from those areas. Every city has a side where the low income poeple live in the older and historic houses.. If you know anything about louisiana then this shouldnt be no secret. Our downtown is very cool. Besides New Orleans its no other city in louisiana has the atmosphere like it.. But to get the full experience you have to go at night. The "coolnees" like your refering to is all around the city mainly on its South side. But dont get me wrong Lafayette still has old buildings and large areas of land here in there that still gives it a country feel. You have to spend time here to understand how unique our city is to appreciate why people saying our city has been so hot during this decade. Trust me people wouldnt be talking so much about something if it wasnt true. Sorry if you were let down, But if your expecting to see alot by just passing by our airport coming from Morgan city you wont see much but like you said industial parts..One day lafayette will build toward those highways but right now it is expanding on differnet sections of the city. So dump that lol j/k

What type of atmosphere does Lafayette has? Are there any French speaking radio stations there?
Why can't the city fixed up the areas around the Interstate

Here is the deal with Lafayette. Our City is built off the interstate. What you have mainly seen are the oldest sections of town. Our downtown is not the centrAl retail or residential locAtions. The City is mainly expanding southward along Johnston, kaliste saloon, and ambassador. In this corridor you will find two large cinemas, the mall area, and proggressively minded camellia blvd corridor. Here you will find river ranch, which is a very highly valued upscale lifestyle complex on the river. This area of town is essentially the new developing downtow
n with lots of shops, lofts, and mansions And themed co
mmunities. Elsewhere other projects are underway such as the warehouse upscale lofts, And a 200 million $ medical center being built. Downtown itself annually hosts a festival that draws 400k people each year. These are some examples of the city progressing. Also the city is on phase two of citywide fiber optic network access.

This is something worth mentioning for those interested in Lafayette - because Lafayette is on a high speed Internet line, they've taken advantage of this with their offer of citywide hiugh speed access. And it doesn't hurt that ULL has a good computer science program.

I'm going to be in Lafayette in a couple weeks scoping the area out for a possible move in a year's time. What is the Camellia Blvd Corridor?

Thanks,
Scott

Talk more about ULL, It isnt mention much on here at all as far as people coming to Louisiana to go to college. I honestly have never seen ULL get mentioned until just now, and I read alot of post. Surely the main college has some influence on the growth, right?

Though it's not LSU, it has had a strong computer science program. And there's the hometown pride aspect that Lafayette people have with that university.
