Default Where to live in the Lake Charles area with horses

Hi-We are a family with 4 kids and we are horse people. We all ride- barrel race and trails. We live in the country in TN and are looking for an area with good schools, not in the city, yet close enough to do things in town easily. We will need to find a place to lease and we have 5 horses that we will bring with us. What area should we look in? Husband is considering a job down there. Any help would be a help!

LOUISIANA'SLEGEND will become famous soon enoughLOUISIANA'SLEGEND will become famous soon enough
My girlfriends mom moved from Baton Rouge (a big city environment) to Monroe, Louisiana because it was the best fit for her love for the country - like environment. May I add she has 10 horses, and has enough land to built a ranch and barn, which she thinks she can built herself just off pure manpower, willpower, and wood. She was born and raised in Springfield, IL, but she absolutely loves it here and so glad she found a place where her horses can be horses. The land here is cheap and as far as jobs concern, try the idustrial and construction fields. Medical jobs are plentiful. Manufacturing plants are plentiful here too. I think you can be happier in this area. Look up Monroe-West Monroe Louisiana area and the vicinity, but you might find the vincinity much pleasing(Calhoun, Swartz, or Chamindale area)

Does husband work in the petrochem industry ? BR has a lot of those jobs as well. And if you worked in north BR, you could live in a rural environment in West Feliciana Parish to the NW of town.

Husband is a chemical engineer- Possibly going to work for Chemtura in Westlake. I have been looking at Sulphur. I am at a loss as to where to find either pasture land for lease or a barn. At least two of our horses will need to be boarded at a riding facility as my daughters will need to find trainers and coaches for riding(barrel racer and dressage) my husband and I can just pasture ours. I would like to find a facility and pasture somewhere close to where we might also find a home- Gosh moving keeps getting more and more complicated than it was before all these horses came along!

Default Moss Bluff Area

I saw your posting about your moving situation. I completely understand. There is plenty of country living around the area. I'm pretty sure you can find something. I'm not sure what all your looking for but I live in Moss Bluff (about 5-10 mins from Westlake) and we have a 1 acre pasture with a pond and barn. Sulphur is a good area to look to. I might be able to offer temporary arrangements for your horses if you end up moving here. Let me know if your interested.

I live in Lebleu Settlement, about a 10 minute ride to Lake Charles. I purchased 10 acres 2 years ago, dug a pond and built the house pad. We have one horse on it. There's a new school here.
There's property here if you look around. BTW, I'm also in the engineering field. The Petro-Chemical industry is very slow at this time.
