Possibly Moving To Baton Rouge...
As it says, may be moving from North Louisiana. If so, I will have to come ahead of my wife and child until our house sells. We are looking and have heard great things about Zachary and the schools there. Can anyone elaborate on this and will be looking for an apartment in that area.

The first question is: where in BR will you be working ? Because with that question answered, we can point you to an area that isn't too far away from your work.
Yes, Zachary's schools have a good reputation, but Zachary is tucked away in the corner of East Baton Rouge Parish, with so so retail, and you're only close to the airport. Plus, I don't think you have a lot of apartments up there.

In that case, Zachary or even Central (that school district was created a few years ago) would be good palces to live due to the school systems there. ONly thing is, I don't think either town has a lot in terms of apartments.

Thanks. Another subject I am reading about here and there is the pollution in Baton Rouge...is it as bad as some say it is? Cancer rates higher? Is there any actual facts I can read on this?

Depends on where in town you are. Near the river, where the plants are, it can smell. Most of the time you don't notice it. As to the "Cancer alley", I've heard differing opinions. Somehow 700K people live here normally. And those in Houston, New Jersey, Chicago. Detroit, Pittsburgh, would have similar issues if industrial plants were that unsafe.

One thing, too, if you look at Zachary or Central (and, honestly, W Feliciana Parish is an option as well, with your working near the airpotr) is that Zachary is more suburban, while Central still has lots of rural area/larger size lots. But parts of Central flood, though, due to the Comite and the Amite Rivers surrounding it on either side.

Is flood insurance required? If so what is the average monthly rate?

Depends on the property - and that's something you can ssk when you look at a house. I honestly don't know the rates.
