Trains Through Lafayette
Hello,
Does anyone know about how many freight trains pass through Lafayette on an average day?
Thanks,
Scott

I posted this question on another forum that is dedicated to trains in Louisiana. Turns out, around 8 to 10 trains day - on average - pass through Lafayette. Not very many.

I'm surprised it's that many.
I live quite near the RR route that follows the River northward from New Orleans — not exactly sure if/where these tracks cross the river, but maybe at Vidalia. At the point where it's closest to my house, there is one train per day going south, but there are no REGULAR trains headed north. The southbound train passes by just before midnight.

Actually, I went back and reread the post from the Louisiana train forum and I was mistaken. According to the poster, BNSF runs four daily trains through Lafayette every day. Other than that, there are the odd BNSF, UP, and Amtrak trains that pass through a few times a week.

I'm considering Lafayette. I would like to live car-free. I'm glad to hear that Amtrak passes through.
I wonder if there is an Amtrak station in Lafayette?

There is a station but the area is frankly not that great. Its kind of trashy.
This is around the area someone on here reffered to as "a dump" which it definitely is. Truth be told, Lafayette isnt designed for foot traffic except in River Ranch and thats its main problem. Lots of amenities and services, but you really need a car. Luckily, Lafayette isnt that sprawling, and you can get to ambassador or the opposite side of the city via I10 in a few minutes.

Amtrak only passes through six times a week: three times in each direction. It couldn't be used for commuting, if that is what you had in mind.
