i hear you. all my family is from LA, but we moved and learned
to read. we learned to write. life is good.
Half the stuff you say, this statement included, makes little sense.

The reason Louisiana is looked down upon is because we elect morons like Jindal, Nagin and Jefferson. In the case of Nagin and Hundred Dollar Bill... they RE elected the cowards.

Another reason, as if corruption and cowardice was not enough... are the roads. I have lived in the Carribean and they have better roads.

Another reason... the Right Wing Religious nutcakes. Excellent. Legislate morality. All righty then. How about open your EYES, We The Sheeple.
There are many reasons LA is looked down upon. I could come up with a spreadsheet full.

If you want the rest of humanity to perceive Louisiana differently you will have to change. Learning to spell and create a sentence would be a great
place to begin.
I heard this on a hip - hop movie,(Nortorious) "We cant change the world unless we change ourselves"

I wrote a thread a while ago called "Does Louisiana has low Self esteem?" umm Yep. Thats why we 'git' talked about, we dont like ourselves so why is anybody esle gonna like us...(dont correct me I know what im doing!!)

Whats one of the many things most embraced about Louisiana is the way we talk. Our famous quotes, the jive talkin, the pronunciation....the thing is we personally dont embrace it because we worry about threads like this one and everthing to nature of anti - Louisiana. Why dont you treat the Louisiana negativity like the food you eat: in Louisiana you dont throw unsatisfying food away, you put hot sauce on it and eat it (i better get rep points for that quote Louisiana!! ) That can go for so many things Louisiana.

People love Louisiana, but its the people who live here that dont. You love your home it will love you back, and that goes for your front yard in Louisiana to your government in Louisiana.

I concur. No governor is without faults, but Jindal is a hell of al ot better than Blanco. He's a bit too far right wing for my liking but thats much better than too left wing. As for his speech on national TV, its not like Obama does any better. Speeches are just promises that havent been broken yet.

Interesting thread. Just sticking my head in from the Southwest by way of Hawaii. A couple of things come to mind:
1) Practically NO ONE can spell these days due to texting shorthand - OMG and kno and UR have replaced the real words. We will live in a world where in 20 years the dictionary can be cut to half its size!

2) Some very intelligent people couldn't spell worth a plug nickel - Einstein for one. He couldn't be bothered. It was a detail he didn't want to hang on to. And there are also people with dyslexia - which causes people to see words jumbled up, so reading is difficult and spelling moreso. Without a heavy reading background, grammar and spelling do not come naturally.

3) I LOVE that different parts of the country have retained their character. I'm so tired of same same same. A friend of mine just wrote a book called The Collapse of Distinction. and he is right on. You can go to every single tourist destination in the world and see the same stores: Nike, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Walmart, McDonalds, Burger King. All the women look the same in Hollyweird. People all want to dress alike - we have "image" people telling us how to "fit in!" Yikes! I want to see Louisiana when I go there. I want to see Hawaii when I go there. I want to see the old west when I'm in Phoenix and Tombstone.

"People" don't think anything. There is no such entity. Each of us thinks what we think. And occasionally, some of us agree. I agree that Louisiana has character AND characters. And the OP is one of them... you sneaky devil you...

voodoo is a carribean thing. Its mostly done on tropical island areas and transferred to New Orleans through immigration. As for the alligator thing, people here do eat them and I am one of them. However we dont wrestle them or anything. There are alligator farms to raise them for meat or skins.

Default I love LA and I'm not born & raised in south

People just love to hate on this place for some reason but it's a beautiful state with lots of things to do and rich history.
