Shreveport Questions
The last time I was in Shreveport I picked up a slick 4-color magazine that was about Shreveport. Part of the magazine was devoted to what you would call the " beautiful people", the movers and shakers in Shreveport and what they were doing. I was impressed because it is very well written. and a relatively new magazine. .
What is the name of the magazine?
What is the name of your most upscale restaurant?
What is the name of your oldest private country club?
I been to Shreveport a number of times. The more I visit the better I lived the city.

It's probably the ad-rag: SB Magazine of which the tagline includes "sometimes controversial, always interesting" Well...never controversial and rehashes the same drivel like: Top 50 Doctors or Top 100 Lawyers...you get the idea. They blow smoke to get favor so they can attract these same Top 50 fill-in-the-blank to advertise.

It sounds very familiar. As it was the only magazine while I was in SBC, I picked up, I thought it was entertaining. I don't know how many coming out parties I could stand, though.
Seriously, one of the things that blows me away aobut LA, is that everyting I've read has great written and good grammar. Luck of the draw or good teachers?
Thanks.

Hmmm..... well good education is not something our area has gotten gold stars for . . .at least not in Caddo Parish. Seems like there have been 3 middle schools that the state has taken over for poor testing. Bossier Parish has better schools than Caddo but then again Caddo has had school board issues for years.

As far as upscale restaurants go (they probably wouldn't be as good as Chicago), the Uptown area (Pierremont and Line Av) would be your best bet. Superior Steakhouse, Giuseppe's, Chianti, fertitta's 6301, Superior Grille, are all well known in the area. Someone help me name some more, I'm getting a mental block here.

Yeah, all of our cities have similar magazines.. Monroe has DeltaStyle: The News Star - www.thenewsstar.com - Monroe, LA
Lake Charles/Lafayette/Baton Rouge has the 1012 Corridor: :: 1012 Corridor ::
They're nice magazines. However, they are for business interest and profit interest only.
I know there's a Shreveport Country Club but further east on I-20, in Choudrant past Ruston towards Monroe, is Squire Creek, which is a DELIGHT: Squire Creek Country Club

Shreveport Country Club fell into financial distress and was bought by a local church, Evangel which is promoting it as more of a Christian retreat than country club. The S'port CC is in West S'port and located in an area of town that has seen better days, hence one of the reasons for its decline in membership.
Shreveport has a gated community to the South called "Southern Trace" which is essentially a cloistered neighborhood of more pricey homes around a nice golf course. Sort of country-club style neighborhood off Ellerbe Rd / Norris Ferry. Traffic can be a pain as it's a two-lane in & out.

Ok Shreveport natives, what are the three most pressing issues that would turn the city around?

I know they got on me bout this last night but, WOOOOOOOWWW!!!!
How could you not emphasize that......these people "seriously" think we are home schooled by Michael Landon as if we we're on little house on the prairie or bayou since we in Louisiana. What next, our pharmacy degrees are influenced by the old country/indian ways of Dr. Quinn Medicine
Woman? Good greifers!!!
Forgive me for acting so "blown away" myself, but he use the word "seriously". The way I took that quote was that the way the rest of the nation perceives Louisiana as low educated is not only just an urban myth or a rumor, its not even just something people joke about from time to time, they "seriously, seriously" think we are half a gumbo, we dont have it all.
Very enlightened today, very enlightened. Inspired as well, inspired to make as much as a difference as I possibly can in my career moves to do what that Shreveport magazine did.....beat the stereotypes. I already beat the some standards anyway, I supposed to be somewhere getting buff in a cell according to the stereotypes of Louisiana. Where do these stereotypes come from anyway, especially with all the successful, intellectual, well known southerners? the Louisiana ones? Wow USA!!!
Nothing personal, just an eye opener. But yeah....Shreveport is cool, but they shoot for the ol' "let the good outweigh the bad concept". By that I mean, forget let the rough high crime areas stay the same, long as it doesnt cross into our area of progress. I barely see a cop in Shreveport when Im there, cross the bridge to Bossier, they're everywhere. Bossier is cleaner, well kept, and overall making true progress all over the city no matter if its the "hood", a high commerce area, or a gated community. For that reason, Bossier City has been slowly closing in on Shreveport as far as everything associated with being a city of attraction, sufficient living comfort, and overall boom
Anyway......Im gonna go get me a DeltaStyle magazine somewhere at the Cottonport District.... you kno, West Monroe, LA's historic district strips that has all the cool antique shops, gift shops, bars, restaurants, and the big condo building on the Ouachita riverbank? Oh guess you never been to Monroe, my bad. Come check us out......we're...(lol, lol) buttery.
