Since some of you who are thinking about moving to Louisiana probably have questions about the various public schools systems in this state, you may like to know that the Louisiana Department of Education has ranked the state's school systems as part of its accountability program. 2004-2005 offers the most current
complete rankings, as the 2005-2006 rankings excluded many systems affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

So you won't have to pull up a map: New Orleans is in Orleans Parish, Kenner and Metairie are in Jefferson Parish, Mandeville and Covington are in St. Tammany Parish, Baton Rouge is in East Baton Rouge Parish, Alexandria is in Rapides Parish, Monroe is in Ouachita Parish, Shreveport is in Caddo Parish, Lake Charles is in Calcasieu Parish, Houma is in Terrebone Parish, and Lafayette is in Lafayette Parish.
