Hello,
My son is moving from his dorm room at ULL (Lafayette, LA) into an apartment. Can anyone advise me where I can purchase inexpensive nice (no junk) furniture?

Thanks, CKP

The best for that situation is to buy used (not necessarily antique) wooden furniture and spruce it up a little bit, use it for the four-six years and sell it or give it away.
The furniture from Akia or Rooms to Go is for the most part particle board and or Formica. It, under dorm conditions, won't last the 4 years. Particle board does not hold fasteners very well so with constant use the joints begin to separate and the furniture falls apart.

I always liked the cinderblocks and pine boards look

Ashley's furniture is a good store. Cramer's Furniture in Blanchard, LA. is good too. Also check garage sells sometimes you just get lucky with those...Ask around your friends, work..That's how I got my first starter sofa. A co-worker. But we just got a new sofa at ashley's. They have nice furniture of all sorts... Finda anything different please let me know! We are moving out of our apartment into our first home. Thanks!

Default Rental Companies

Furniture rental companies usually have used furniture for sale. It costs more than you would pay at a garage sale, but it's a lot more convenient.

I don't know the names of companies in Lafayette. In B. R. there is Cort Furniture and Aaron's.

There is a consignment furniture store in Eunice, LA (not to far), Secondhand Rose that may have something that will hold up to college boys!

Home Furniture is about the best price/quality mix you'll find. I don't know the number but it's just down the street from the airport on Surrey.

Home Furniture also has a southside location now in the old Books-a-Million location. Ambassador at Johnston, near Toys-R-Us. But, you are right that they sell some good furniture at a good price.
