Default schools

Does Woodworth, LA have its own school system or do they feed off of another towns school district. My husband and I are moving to the area and i was just wondering.

I know Woodworth is in Rapides Parish - not sure how the districts are divided up - it's a fairly rural area, but peaceful and safe.

No, Woodworth does not have its own school system. If you live in Woodworth, you will most likely be zoned for a school in the city of Alexandria. Much of Woodworth is zoned for Alexandria Senior High and Brame Middle School, both of which are decent. As far as elementary goes, the majority of Woodworth is zoned for Horseshoe Drive Elementary, which is not too great of a school. However, if you decide to live in Timberlake subdivision (a nice wooded neighborhood with a lake), you will be zoned for Cherokee Elem., which is a decent school. If you decide to use private schools, Alexandria has a number of Catholic schools as well as a Country Day School. There is also a small Christian school in Alexandria and a larger one in Pineville.

I would consider Woodworth a nice, safe place for families. Even though its a small town right now, it is growing rapidly. Unlike Alexandria, which is as flat as a pancake, Woodworth has rolling hills and is heavily wooded.

In my previous post, I failed to mention that the southern portion of the Woodworth area is zoned for Forest Hill Elem., Carter C. Raymond Middle, and Rapides High. All of these schools are small and rural. Forest Hill Elementary is one of the most highly rated schools in Rapides Parish. Carter C. Raymond and Rapides High are not the best schools in the area but they're certainly not the worst. I believe that Ashton Colony, a new upscale subdivision being built near I-49 at the Robinson Bridge Rd. exit, is located in all of these zones. Another option you have for elementary, no matter where you live in Rapides Parish, is Phoenix Magnet, a public school that requires above average grades. Although this school is located in a bad area of town, it is one of the most highly ranked public elementary schools in the parish. Rapides Parish schools, overall, are not great but the majority of them are not terrible. There are some very poorly rated schools located in inner-city Alexandria.
