Default considering moving back to louisiana with dogs

Hello,

I lived in Baton Rouge in the 80's. I moved back to California and am now thinking of moving back to Louisiana as I have become jobless.
I would like to find an okay house that I might be able to buy contingent on selling the house I have here, priced on the lower side that could accomodate 3 dogs. I would be looking for work in Lake Charles.
I would love to get opinions on neighborhoods that might work out for me.
I am 56 and female. Thank you!

I was also looking at Houma and New Iberia. Any suggestions at all would be much appreicated.

There's a thread here about a lifelong Lake Charles resident being out of work for more than a year. I was in Houma just last week and the town was bustling.

It looks like the gulf area is still having a hard time. You may have to move inland. Gonzales and Lafayette and SBC all seemed to be going okay at the end of 2006, but that was at the beginning of the housing bust. I don't know how it is now.

Default thanks for your input!

What stayed with me since I left Louisiana in 1991 was New Iberia - as I made a little visit there just before I left. I really liked the feeling of a more southern Louisiana than Baton Rouge, but probably just isn't practical. Looking at the Plaquemine area today. Thanks again.

What kind of job skills do you have?

You may be able to make $10/hr. at a call center or something provided you have a good work history.

I was a blackjack dealer for about 8 years most recently. Prior to that casino cashier. I did work in Louisiana for Community Coffee at a call center, basically. I still have this wish to live in the southern part of the state. Was just about to look into "hurricane" insurance.
Yes, I do have a good work history and all that. Had actually been thinking call center would be a good choice. Casinos are so unhealthy.
