Hi Thomas
First I'd like to welcome you and your wife to the area, Restaurants in the area.
Washington restaurants:
Steamboat Warehouse
the Cafe in the Old School House antique Mall is decent Limited hours though.
The only shopping in Washington is the Antique Stores you may want to visit them Spend at least a day Saturday or Sunday It will take you that long to visit all the stores, great finds at some of them. On the weekend of October 10 & 11 there will be the biannual antique sale on the grounds of the School House Antique Mall, Vendors from all across the country will be there. This goes on twice a year in April & October.
Washington is known as a Speed trap town So watch our Speed.
Opelousas Area
Fast Food
Burger King, Mcdonalds, Little Cesars, Pizza Hut, Sonic, Popeye's, Mr Gattis, Taco Bell,
Raising Cane's all located on Creswell Lane & S. Union street area. Dairy Queen located on Landry St.
Mama's Fried Chicken is pretty good Locally owned 2 location one on Landry St. the other on Heather Drive.
Its sad to say there are not many chain restaurants in Opelousas except fast food but there are some really good Local restaurants
Restaurants:
Creswell Lane restaurant best Chinese buffet it town, (avoid Peking on Creswell lots of DH&H violations)
Back In Time Sandwich shop Located on Landry St across from the Courthouse downtown, Owner is my neighbor, She is only open Monday thru Saturday 10 am - 2 pm. Some of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten.
Palace Cafe located on the corner of Landry & Market is locally owned and pretty good they have been there since the 50's.
Cafe Breen which has a location in Crossroads Antiques on Creswell Lane limited hours,They are opening a location on North Main street in downtown Opelousas I believe they will be open October 12
food is great at their existing location.
Soileau's Dinner Club on N Union is ok but there food is too Salty for me.
Mexican
Casa Ole Chain
La Hacienda next to the now Closed Ryans in the best mexican food in the area.
The Old Ryans location will be opening as something soon I can't say what it will be yet, they are taking the time to renovate the building so don't know when it will open, it will be good though.
EVD Casino
has the Cajun Buffet I just give it 1 star at the most.
Blackberry's is good, probably the only so say fine dining in the area, I would take a date there.
Vidrines Located in the small town of Lewisburg it has pretty good Seafood & Steaks its no Ruth Chris's very affordable.
Carencro Area
Prejeans is excellent as someone else mentioned
Also there is this little Resturant on St. Peter street in downtown Carencro called Paul's Pirouge really good and Locally owned.
In New Roads Louisiana there is a resaurant called Satterfields Located downtown overlooking the Lake Its about a 45 min drive from Opelousas, but its worth it try the Sensation Salad.
Lafayette and surrounding areas has alot of excellent restaurants it would take too long to list them all, If you want to know about specific types of restaurants I'd be glad to help.
Opelousas Shopping
Sad to say there are not many Retail establishments in the Opelousas area besides your typical Walmart, Stage, Lowes are National/Regional establishments. Some local places J.B Sandoz hardware & Gifts Located in downtown Opelousas near the Library. There are some shops on Creswell Lane you may want to check out. I don't know why National chains over look the area there is alot of potential in this underserved market.
Most of us that live here usually make the drive to Lafayette, Baton Rouge or Alexandra to shop at Malls, Sams, Target ect.
There is a new shopping center that just opened up on I-10 between Lafayette & Breaux Bridge, it has a Target, JC Penny, Ross, Hibbit Sports, Rue 21, Lane Bryant, Caque (ka-seek), Petco, Office Depot, Game Stop, At&t store, Chick Fil A, Taco Bell and a few I'm probably missing. It saves the hassle of having to drive all the way to the other side of Lafayette to shop at these stores.
Hope this helps
John
