Jena, LA info Please
Can someone tell me about Jena,Louisiana.
My husband has been approached about taking a job there.
We have a 1st grader and one in pre-school.
How are the public schools? Are there any Catholic Schools near by? How is the housing Market? Is there good and bad neighborhoods? We can spend around $300,00 on a home, what kind of neighborhood would that get us? Do you recommend living in Jena or another suburb, if so how far of a commute are other housing choices? Are there Dance studios and other extra-curricular activities for children. Any info you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Err, do you follow the news at all? Try googling Jena Six!!
Jena is full of racists and racial tension.
Best advice - don't go anywhere near!

That whole Jena 6 situation was blown way out of proportion by a couple of race baiters that stood to gain from all of the turmoil . You know who I'm talking about .
As for living in Jena , there isn't much there . Nothing for the kids , nothing for the parent's . $300k would buy a helluva home in that area .

I assume by race baiters you mean the white fascists who inhabit the town?

And the most overlooked part of the whole Jena 6 story is that the 6 thugs (no, I don't think kinder words should be used here) beat up someone and sent him to the hospital, and these thugs had criminal records. Oh, and the attack on Justin Barker was unprovoked.

You gotta be kidding me. "Unprovoked"?? If that was really true, would the events that played out would have occured if the fight was unprovoked?

No, not kidding - the entire conflict was bad behavior from both sides, but Justin Barker was jumped by thugs because he was unfortunate enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. And that's the part of the story that has been neglected - you're not talking about innocent people here.

Yea... there is NOTHING in jena. not a thing to do at all, bunch of community problems too. On the other hand 300K would buy a very nice place. Not many suburbs that I know of. Most of the people there have land with a home on it. Best of luck to you though.
