LOUISIANA'SLEGEND will become famous soon enoughLOUISIANA'SLEGEND will become famous soon enough
Im now back home in my buttery Monroe, Louisiana from visiting the allegedly "dumpy Lafayette, Louisiana. What did I think of it..........WOW!!!!!!!!! This is no form or fashion the Lafayette I remember in the mid 90s. I wrote thread in reference to the fact that someone once wrote a thread, " Lafayette was a dump"..........helll naw. The only dump I saw was Jefferson Street downtown, whiched looked like they had a straight Mardi Gras party that Saturday night.

I was wowed and amazed at that long. long, continous after party-like trash out there(beer cups everywhere, mardi gras beads, cigarettes, flyers, paper plates, etc) Whooooo, I miss a party!!! It looked like Borbon Street out there. The bars, the restuarants, the souvenir shops, the dentist offices? The art presences is unbelievable. The thing is was I went on Sunday, but there were still jam packed diners and cafes.

The homes there are beautiful, the plentiful horses ranches, and all the new retail. I went to Shreveport the Sunday before and after seeing this I was dam, culture, culture, culture.

I saw very little historic lanmarks except for that gorgeous church and the fattest tree in the world. Everthing in Lafayette looks almost new or remodeled, I didnt see too many historical areas except for the homes which also seemed be on the way of destuction for newer ones.

Colleges still the same, Cajundome still sexy, and ummm, the hood is still the hood. But im still wondering, where were the dumpy areas???????????

Lafayette big ups, I going to try to make my way down as often as possible. Oh my god, jefferson st. I need to see you in action!!!!!!!

The city has really beun to improve the last ten years. Even the northside looks a lot better than it did with the renovations and new places going up.
If you really want to see Jefferson street at its best, attend the Festivale Internationale in April. Music from around the world, food to die for, and an atmosphere that only 400k people can bring. Totally awesome event and well worth the trip down.

"Cajundome still sexy"? I've never heard someone describe a building as "sexy". LOL. I could see the Washington Monument, maybe.

Personally, I wish the Cajundome would go away. It's a burden on the city, the university basketball team never fills up the dome, hardly any acts go there because of the fees and taxes, and it does do well in hurricanes. The Blackham Colosium survived many hurricanes and is now hosting arena football, hockey, rodeo, and can still do basketball all for a lower price than the Cajundome without hurting the city.

Louisiana Legend I wish you could have seen Jefferson St. at night it is really a site to see.. Even though I dont really see it as much as I used to because I live here(When your from somewhere you dont wont to see the same stuff evey weekend you kind of turn into a old pair of shoes when people see you every weekend) but it is trully something else for the people thats might have a night life taste in them. Lafayette really has 3 strips. Jefferson St(Mecca of downtown), Simcoe(More urban for the older African American crowd with bars, zydeco and blues clubs), McKinley Strip( College crowd with bars and clubs steching out on both sides) Along with the strips has a host of Bars, clubs, restaurants, and hotels...They will throw a party anywhere out here. For a city this size you will find something to do if you have a itch to go out no matter what race, sex, or anything....

SailorDave: You wish the Cajun Dome will go away?? Do really think its that much of a burden? I agree it seems like everytime you turn around the dome is always on the news for something negative, but come on imagine life without the cajun dome? It gives us options, blackham has been around for a while, but if thats all we would have, Lafayette would be skipped for alot of events.
