People drive slow on the interstates as well. If you want speed, you have to ride bumpers until the Moderator cut: insulting move over and allow you to pass - as the left lane was intended for.

I'm a LA transplant living in L.A. People are rude, selfish, inconsiderate and lazy everywhere. When I saw that, I made it a point to say please and thank you, excuse me, and other politeness. I take care to use a polite respectful tone with counterpersons and wait staff. They look at me strangely, and then, respond positively. I'm consistent about this, though. Even when I don't get treated well in return. We can be the change we want to see in the world.

Well, I live in Texas and everybody always says "Good Morning" or "Hello" and everybody holds the doors for everybody else and people stand out on the streets waving as we pass by in our cars and they offer us a cold drink or hot coffee and just do positively everything as politely as they can. NOBODY is ever rude in Texas and all Texans are nice and all of everybody else is rude. And the good manners of Texans goes on and on and on and on and on.
. . . and if you believe that then I have a ski lodge south of Lafayette that I'll let you buy real cheap.
Oh yeh, one more thing, blame everything on "those Katrina people".

Wow! Louisiana sounds so much different than the rest of the south! In and around NO I found the people a little more harsh than the rest of LA and say, in Memphis. They still seemed pretty friendly though... What is this world coming to... I remember going to Chicago from here(south) and tried to strike up a conversation with some of the people in the tollbooth (THERES SO MANY TOLL HIGHWAYS IN THE NORTH!) You know, a "hello" or "evenin'!" The only response was a crazy look at me, until a nice black lady actually said hello and have a good day! She must have been from the south I figured, but apparently not from Louisiana...Louisiana (In general) really could learn a thing or two from its friendly, southern neighbors- It appears to be giving the south a bad reputation.

Hay y'all! I was just talking to my co workers about rude people and I agree with you here, Florida far surpasses rude people by far. I walk into Calvin's supermarket and get a warm hello from nearly every employee. I think the waiters here are awesome especially since I moved here from Ft Myers Florida and compare waitstaff all the time. I also agree(sorry guys) that people here have gotten more rude since Katrina! I do still see a lot of nice people here though! Just like some posters said, you be nice to them and they will do the same. It just seems like people these days are more distrustful of each other and who can blame them? But I do have to say that I feel Louisiana has the friendliest people by far. I have been to Texas and those people are just like Floridians as far as rudeness. I guess it is in how one was raised etc. I have to say that the youger set of people where I work never ever say pardon me as as they are walking thorugh a conversation 2 people are having. Manners in general are going out the door!!

I have to disagree, but then again, there are plenty of rude people in the north as well.

People here in New Orleans are much nicer than I'm used to in Atlanta actually.
My only real complaint is the slow driving and the stopping to make a turn. Where I come from you turn hard and fast and there is no such thing as "slow".

The other thing is, we are in the south and the south is known for "slower pACE" especially in driving, but that is ok with me because people these days are in tooooo much of a HURRY AND forget that life is so short that you can die in a nanosecond, so why not enjoy life and all it has to offer???
