I have to agree as much as I can (not having been to Atlanta). I just have to say that I've encountered so many nice, friendly people in NO over the years. Honestly, I can't think of any part of Louisiana where there is an inordinate amount of unfriendly, ill-mannered people.

You know, a "hello" or "evenin'!" The only response was a crazy look at me, until a nice black lady actually said hello and have a good day! She must have been from the south I figured, but apparently not from Louisiana...Louisiana (In general) really could learn a thing or two from its friendly, southern neighbors- It appears to be giving the south a bad reputation.

The South (in general) did not need Louisiana to give it the reputation among Westerners, Easterners and Northerners. Some of what was "accomplished" was done in other states besides Louisiana. History handily bears out the truth of that.

People bump into you at the store, I say "Excuse Me" in a polite way and they don't say anything and look at me like I'm crazy or something. I've been here for a few months now and have only seen 3 or 4 times that someone used any manners. (I heard that all of the evacuees from Hurricane Katrina that came here may have drained everyone's hospitality).
-I see men walk into stores and just let the door shut in the person's face right behind them, sometimes their own wife.
-Seems to be a law here that keeps people that are driving slow from pulling off onto the shoulder to let people pass. Also prevents people from pulling onto the shoulder when making turns off of highways. I mean people actually stop in the highway to make turns! You will get killed "rear ended" in Texas doing this. Please someone change this ridiculous law!
I'm not trying to run down this area, just trying to help improve and make a friendlier place.

First of all the law about driving on the shoulder is illegal whether in TX or any other State. You are not supposed to cross the solid line. No matter what state. You are also supposed to get in the right lane of a 4-lane except when passing but most do not. When Tx people allow you to pass it is a courtesy it is just as illegal as it is here. Cops may not write tickets for it but they could. Also the speed limit is not 70mph on 2 lane roads. If pulling over was done in La would result in even more broken windshields. I also must say that you better watch you speed buckle up and any other minor law because the area is nothing more than a bunch of communities relying on citations to support their community projects

Today, I was driving around towna nd was happy to see about 6 gestures of kindness from one driver to another. Yes, there are rude people here, but honestly, I think people in Baton Rouge are pretty allright!

All of you all. get over it. There are issue in every town you live or visit. Nowhere is Perfect and perhaps you all need to focus on the positive and not so much on the negative. As most of you all stated not ALL people are rude. anyways New Orleans folks haven't made that much of a difference. New Orleans was one of the most visited cities in Louisiana. There were always events that people would return to time after time. We didn't hear anything about them being rude then. So, get over it and focus on something else. And as far as the shopping carts in wal-mart parking lot, please. There are carts in every store's parking lot. Why just pick on walmart. If you want to make a difference, get a job at wal-mart and help keep the basket organized. That is not a sign of anything, except maybe they need more custodian workers!

I still love New Orleans, but their presense here in BR has had a negative impact on the kindness that used to be here-sorry, but true!

I have also noticed a negative change in BR's overall personality from before Katrina to after. I guess it is the NO folks...I never wouldve guessed...
