Is Haughton a safe area?
If we do choose to live on the Bossier side, we would eventually sale the land in smaller tracts later on...right now, I am trying to find a safe place to raise my small children with good schools....Shreveport doesn't look like an option at this point.
Do you know any realtors in Caddo/Bossier with rentals? That is how we found our last rental.
Thanks sooooo much for the info!!!!!!!!!!

I live in Haughton, and it's not a bad place. It has its problems... mainly associated with poverty, but I live in a good subdivision so I don't experience the problems. I moved out here from Shreveport 3 years ago because of the nice home prices.
I don't think I can recommend any realtors here, but as the moderator mentioned, most of the larger companies have a rental division.

And yeah it's right off Hwy 80. Try looking at Cornerstone if you want to be IN Haughton rather than in East Bossier. Cornerstone is over here by my house and is very nice... you can get in for probably 180,000+.

Tall Timber has had terrible flooding problems in the past. The parish did do extensive work on a drainage ditch. Haven't had substantial enough rains since to know if ditch works or not.

Legacy and Savannah Place are both excellent areas to live. Savannah is near Pecan Park, Bellaire, Shady Grove and Sun City, all very nice, family oriented areas. They are all just across the river from the Youree Drive area in Shreveport where many, many, many new shopping places and eating establishments have and are opening. I have lived in Bossier City all of my 51 years of life and can vouch for all of the above areas. Now, Legacy is a very new area north of town. North Bossier City and Bossier Parish are the boom areas right now. New shopping centers and restaurants are cropping up like crazy. This has added to traffic on Airline Drive, but still is a very good area. Schools in Bossier are excellent.

I have lived in Bossier City all of my 51 years of life and I totally agree about the excellent area of Stockwell, Lafayette and Carriage Oaks. Excellent schools

We are relocating from Mississippi to the Shreveport area.
I'm in need of some information. We're looking in the Haughton area but I'm not too gung ho about HOA gated communities. Are there any other places near that offer new homes without being gated ?
I've also searched the Benton, Stonewall, Blanchard, Greenwood areas. Not being familiar with those areas, how rural are they ? Meaning are there any grocery stores, gas stations, Walmarts close ? I'm not picky, I just need those things to survive. I don't care if there is any night life or restaurants, stores near are more important.
We have no children so being in an area with good schools doesn't matter to us. It's not imporatant that we live close to Shreveport either. My husband will only go there periodically. My son will be looking for employment. I'd like something in a low crime, low tax, not too far for the son to commute area with stores nearby and not in a gated community.
Am I asking too much ?
I have 2 months to find a place.

Hello
Hope you haven't given up on a response. It seems you need close shopping but really aren't interested in schools etc. That would make it easier for sure. Blanchard is a nice community, low crime, high income, a variety of newly constructed homes, a golf course nearby Caddo lake. But you don't have the shopping options there unfortunately. Must go into North Shrevdeport or take 220 bypass into Bossier City. Can make for a long drive.
Benton is convenient to North Bossier, very small town appeal, some nice outlying developments, crime rate is fairly low.
Stonewall is a nice rapidly developing area not far from SW Shreveport. Walmart is just in the city limits of SW Sh, many new housing developments.
Greenwood, ditto west of Shreveport, nearby shopping includes (Pines Rd exit) Walmart, home depot, etc.
You may have to take each new development one at a time to see whether it is hoa or not. Seems the newest areas are mostly like this. Older ones aren't so much. This is Blanchard, Benton, Stonewall, Greenwood, as well as Haughton.
All our Walmarts are superWalmarts and there are also 2 Targets in case you don't like Wallyworld. For the most available shopping from a small town and ungated un hoa communities that I know of, Benton would be your best bet. Good Luck to you all-Hdwell

consider haughton. small town feel, close to the east gate of barksdale, but just a hop skip and a jump to anything in shreveport. a lot less traffic there than shreveport proper. there are a lot of homes built in the fifties and newer that can be gotten for reasonable prices. if you want to live slose in bellaire and shady grove are both quiet and established neighborhoods with good schools and VERY close to the main gate.

New in Shreveport...
Hi,
We just relocated from Tennessee to Shreveport and we didn't bring any furniture with us because we still have a home in TN, but we are trying to find the best neighborhoods in Shreveport so we can buy some stuff at yard sales. Which areas would you reccomend? I would greatly appreciate if you reply.

The only neighborhoods I would shop yard sales in Shreveport would be Springlake, Pierremont Hills, South Highlands, and basically any neighborhood south on Ellerbe/Norris Ferry.
