How about the Highlahnd Area? Houses there look pretty nice and look like the type that keep their value well, lots of walkable areas, near Centenary College. The only down side I see of that section is the lack of substantial shopping outlets - with the possible exception of the areas nearest to Youree Dr. (the eastern boundary of Highland).
For those moving from a more liberal social climate, I'd reccommend they check out that neighborhood - presumably there'd be less culture shock for them.

Hey All,
What can you tell me about buying a house in High School Districts of Caddo Magnet, CE Byrd, or Captain Shreve. They all have higher ACT Scores than Bossier High Schools. Also they have quite a few Advanced Placement courses. I'm open to Bossier schools, but which ones compare to the three in Shreveport?
How about the crime in those neighboorhoods? Are the houses there affordable?

Those Shreveport schools you named are definitely the tops in the Caddo school system. I believe two of them are actually magnet schools.
Bossier's best schools are Airline, Benton, Haughton, and parkway in that order... or you might swap Parkway and Haughton, but those two are very close.

SBC
Is it hard to find a 2,000SF house in those districts under 175K? Would you rate those places as crime magnets, or are they pretty safe? Do you know where I can get a district map or something that shows boundasries? I wrote the president of caddo dsitrct, with no reply yet, yes I bet they are vacationing someplace...but anyway. There are some pretty bad vibes about SB City on this page?

Johnusaf,
I'm thinking about goin to SBC. What elementary schools feed the Middle schools and then feed the High schools? What I specifically would like to know is if I want to be in Caddo Magnet, Byrd or Capt Shreve what middle schools would one go to in order to get there?

Bad vibes? I haven't noticed... ?
You won't find any newer homes with 2,000 sqft for under $200,000-$250,000. Broadmoor and Highland will have homes in that size range for the price you're wanting.

Your kids will have to 'test into' the magnet system. Currently, South Highlands and Fairfield Elementary are the feeders for Caddo Middle Magnet. From there it could be Caddo Magnet High, or the satellite magnet program at CE Byrd. NOT ALL of Byrd High is magnet, just one wing, which is odd to me...
I have several friends who were also AF brats like me and graduated from Airline. (My dad got stationed at Ellsworth before I graduated.) Great school, been there awhile, but nonetheless tops in my book. Benton's got great schools all the way up, but a bit of a drive for us. (Wife's work is in S'port, mine in Minden, 25 miles east.) I don't think you'd regret N. Bossier. I regret leaving it 7 years ago--we should've kept my house instead of hers!

well most of shreveport iz and allright sorta place u kno? u just gotta be careful bout some of tha areas, which of course u already kno. Az other ppl already said, tha worst of tha violence iz b/w gangs, tho tha bloods r tha more common of tha gangs. tha neighborhood around C.E. Byrd High Skool and Caddo Magnet High can both be bad neighborhoods, Magnet more, but tha skools r among tha top in this area, Byrd iz extremely strict about violence so its a safe skool. If ur raising kids, u might wanna be careful bout movin out in tha keithville and haughton areas and such because drug use iz increasing out ther and i kno that its common out ther.
this iz extremely basic i kno, but im not good w/tha general things, if u hav specific questions e-mail them

i wuz reading tha question bout the skools and ive gone 2 Caddo Magnet High(CMHS) and C.E. Byrd and my sister has finished Captain Shreve. Now generally with middle skools, tha most popular would probably Caddo Middle Magnet(CMM) and neighborhood skool wise, youree middle skool and ridgewood r actually very good skools, but not magnet. CMM iz an excellent skool(i went ther) and its got an excellent flow. Education wise, its top notch, and can be higher level than most, and even has spanish and french classes, which can count towards TOPS. And the teachers r smart of course and kno how to handle the material and present it wher kids can like the work mor than at a regular skool. Tha kids r easy 2 get along with and very friendly and most of them either go 2 CMHS or Byrd. Byrd is on a higher level of learning and tha kids r clearly associated w/cliques and such, and its over crowded but very safe! Most of tha kids ther tho r like CMM kids, and the restrictions r: no hats on campus, no ipods, no gum, no eating in class, no drinking(except for water) in class, shirts must be tuked in if they go past the bottom of your rear pokcet. Magnet is more laid bac and much mor friendly with tha normal ppl, but has a bit of the prob w/goths and emo ppl. They dont hav a football or basketball team, but they do hav a softball team, soccer team, and a lacrosse team. ROTC iz very popular ther too! I forgot 2 mention Byrd haz 1 of the best football teamz around and makes a very big deal of ther huge winning streak over Captain Shreve, which i think iz 17 yeers. Captain Shreve iz an average high skool, neighborhood only, and all i kno about the ppl iz that tha alot of the girls r sluts and such. Byrd can be trouble too becuzz at tha Walgreen's right by it, ther iz alot of smoking that goes on of cigarettes and weed. Byrd iz more integrated and equally balanced than CMHS, and ther r bloods that go ther, but nuthin bad ever happenz.
CMM and CMHS u hav 2 test into to gain admission but not Byrd. and like foodlova said, fairfield and southhighlands elementary r tha feeders. but as 4 tha one wing 4 magnet program at Byrd, its not its all over tha skool. U gotta becareful if u go 2 CMHS and transfer by choice becuzz u must sign a sheet and u will NOT be able 2 go bac!!!!!!!!!
Also tha Fair Grounds area iz a little dangerous at tha time due 2 tha upcoming Louisiana State Fair and last yeers scandal when a local gang frum the area did a drive-by in tha parking lot of it during tha fair. Southwood High can also be a good skool, its pretty balanced, and its ROTC and baseball team do great
this iz jus sum info and it shouldnt discourage u frum movin heer
