My family and I will be moving to Bossier City this summer. My husband will be getting out of the military. He has been in for 23 years and has worked as an aircraft maintenance/crew chief on C-135 airplane. Can you give me any feedback as to what is the demand for aircraft maintenance or what companies if any may be hiring. Also I will be trying to continue my home daycare business. What is the demand for daycare?

I'm pretty sure at the Shreveport Regional Airport, Continental Airlines has a maintenance division. It's an old Boeing hangar where Continental repairs their planes... if it's still there. I believe it is, though. He might want to look into that.

Outside of that I'm not sure what other civilian aircraft maintenance there is in this region, but the Shreveport Regional Airport, and even the Shreveport Downtown Airport, might be good places to look.

Daycare is in demand everywhere, isn't it? I guess that will depend on your neighborhood. The nicer the neighborhood the more stay-at-home moms you're going to see, but I would think there would still be somewhat of a demand.

Thanks for your prompt reply. We will definitely look into the airports you mentioned. As far as the neighborhood, I know everyone who is moving to Bossier-Shreveport main concern is the neighborhoods, which is also minds, but I am looking for info on rental homes around $900-$1000 per month which is in a decent neighborhood with good schools. My daughter will be in 5th grade and my son will be in 11th grade. Are there any nice neighborhoods that are close to the base within that price range. I was told the rental/purchase rates had skyrocketed there since the casinos came there.

I'll send you a PM with a link. It's the same link I sent to someone else just last week, for a local real estate company that I dealt with when I bought my home. I refer you to them because I know some of their agents have rental homes in good areas. I'll send that link right after I post this.

I am going to be relocating to Shrevport in the next few months and I would like to know a few of the good places to live. I am originally from the Metro NYC Area and I am in the Norfolk VA area currently finishing up my masters program at NSU in Secondary Education/Community Counseling.

I also wanted to find out about the working for the school system in Shreveport or the surrounding areas as I will be taking my teacher certification exam to become a license teacher/counselor as well as Colleges and Universities that offer either 6th year certificates or doctorate programs.

We are going to be coming down there to Shreveport in a couple of weeks to check out the area. Any help would be greatly appreciated in finding out the true cost of living and where is the best place to live in Shreveport. Thank you......

Bossier's best schools are Airline, Benton, Haughton, and parkway in that order... or you might swap Parkway and Haughton, but those two are very close.
Can you explain why you list these schools in this order? I am moving to the area with high school age children.

It is just my opinion based solely on academics, not extracurricular activities, and formed by nothing more than what I've heard from people who have attended these schools or who have children who have attended these schools. Thinking about this now, I would probably change Parkway to be between Haughton and Benton. Again, this is all based on opinion. I wish I could show some facts to back this up, but I cannot.

OK. This is what I found based on test scores only. For the 213 high schools in LA, Benton ranks 53, Parkway 56, Haughton 91, and Airline 99. That being said, based on test scores only Caddo Parish Magnet ranks #2 in the state (but I haven't been able to get any info due to their web site being down). For me, 91/213 or 99/213 is way too low when only one high school in the state of LA made it to the top 1300 school in the US (that school was in Baton Rouge).

All that said, I am just trying to make informed decisions, and safety is just as important to me as academics, since I can teach my children what they don't learn at school at home, but I can't keep them safe at school.

OK...so my wife and I took a trip to S'port from Atlanta last week. We spent 7 days in town and tried to take in as much of the City and neighborhoods as possible. I think we have narrowed it down to the S. Highlands area, SE Shreveport and the Springlake area. We are looking at a townhome in Springlake and were wondering what people thought of that particular area. It seems nice and safe...and the only downside I could find were the apartments (Springlake Point?). They looked older and a bit run down. Let me know what you all think of this area - especially you SBCMetroGuy

Thanks!
